Kubel Picks up 6 RBIs...Another Day at the Office

See I told you guys that the Monroe signing was a waste of money.... Great game last night, hope the offensive output can continue.

Did you guys see that Garza is on the DL with some type of nerve irritation? No word on how long he'll be out, might just be a minor thing, but apparently he was having similar issues last year (not good). When Gardy was asked whether he knew about it he responded "I saw him throw one 15 rows up -- I didn't think his arm was bothering him then -- when he tried a pickoff at first base," Gardenhire said. "His arm strength was fine." ... I love Gardy

One non-related note. Wolves have now lost 6 in a row, pretty much securing that they'll finish with the 2nd or 3rd worst record, and, thus, improving their chances at a high pick next year... finally, they did something right this year ( prior to the loss streak they were playing .500 ball and hurting their chances for a top pick next year)- now we just need to make sure that they don't pick a 6'4" athletic tweener... or I swear, I'm done with this team until McHale is gone.

Good on ya Kubel! He is quickly becoming this blogs "Metronic's Comeback Player of the Year."

LH - as one of 12 Woofie fans left in God's Country, do you really think the balls are gonig to bounce our way? BTW - the NBA lottery is so dumb.

Here is a link to the Woofies draft history
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Timberwolves_draft_history

In 19 years the highest pick in the first round was a #3 when we took f'ing Laettner. Granted, it doesn't help when your owner and GM and coach all cheat and lose first rounders for 5 years because KG liked Joe Smith.

All I'm saying is that if you are basing your fandom on us getting a high pick (let alone making a 'smart choice') you are more stupider than I thought.

JS, put the claws back in...I'm not basing my fandom on getting a high pick, I'm basing my fandom on how the fromt office uses that high pick. Meaning if they draft another 6'4" tweener, of which we already have 75 of them on the team, I'm done. If you want a point guard, draft a point guard, don't try and take a short 2 and teach him how to play point- it so rarely works that it just isn't worth the risk.

If you want a center, don't draft a 6'9" guy who hustles and plays long... or that went to New Mexico ---- draft a 6'11" or better f_ing center who can run down the court and maybe even jump occassionally....and if you draft one more player, just to trade him away on draft day so that you can save $1MM..... and don't even get me started on the trades that this clown show of a front-office has done as of late...dammit Jan, not you got me all worked up.

Love the link by the way.. basically, they've made a total of 6 passable picks out of 40 in the 19 years of their existence. One of those, KG, was amazingly good, and is solely responsible for McHale's continued employment. 2 of those 6 picks were great picks, unfortunately for the wolves, the decided to trade those two picks away on draft day (Ray Allen, Brandon Roy)....stupid, stupid McHale. and the last 3, Gerald Glass, Pooh, and Doug West...were decent picks. That leaves 34 below average picks, of which 85% of them were just plain awful... this is the burden I carry

God, I'm so glad I'm most likely described as this blog's Twins Guy and not, like lh, the Wolves Guy. That's gotta suck, dude. (For the record, I think of bg as the Gophers Guy and jan and rts as co-Vikings Guys - that's the biggest job; jan also gets to be the Wild Guy)

For the record, Gardy came out and said after the game last night he intends to get Kubel his 500 PA's this season. Perhaps the Opening Day Monroe nod was just a gesture toward the veteran (and the front office that paid him $3+M).

Jan, don't ever take Laettner's name in vain like that again. No, he's not a Hall of Famer, but he averaged 17 and 8 for the Wolves for four years and made the All-Rookie team. There are plenty of high lottery picks out there with less than 11,000 career points.

By the way, I smiled remembering the name Gerald Glass, so I clicked his link on wiki: best season scoring average was only 11.5, only played six seasons, so I'm not sure I'd put him in the successful category, although it was the no. 20 pick.

Personally, I like the 2003 draft class of Ndudi Ebi and Rickert. Some of McHale's finer work there.

MCA - Listen, I won't bash Laettner, he was a great college basketball player. All I'm saying is that if you look at 3 years with the woofies (I think he got traded part way through his fourth year)from '92 - '94, while he may have averaged 17 and 8, the team went 60 & 186. I don't hold him responsible for that record but he was a part of the losing here.

Saying he made the All Rookie team is like saying Ron Coomer was an All Star.

LH, care to give a verdict on Laettner's time with the Woofies?
