AL Central Roundup - Week 1

Detroit is off to a terrible start but does it really matter in April? I say no. That lineup is too good. Granted being 0-6 doesn't help but the Twins are on a 8 game road swing that ends with 2 games in Rock City next Monday and Tuesday, by then you can assume we will be lining up for the 'buzz saw' of that offense.

Twins took 2 of 3 from the Royals as they appeared to mail it in yesterday. Brett Tomko held us to 1 run. Really? We lead the AL in hitting into double plays, great stat. However, Morneau started to hit the ball which is a good sign and Go-Go & Young are playing well. Go-Go's Friday night of 3 for 4 with 2 stolen bases was a sight; can we lock him up in the offseason? Young has a laser for an arm. BTW - did I jinx Cuddy with my post last week? He is on the 15 day DL after sliding into 3rd and screwing up his finger.

Twins face the AL central leading White Sox starting today at 3:05pm CST (random Chicago schedule with a game today, off day tomorrow, and games on Wednesday and Thursday, I'm assuming there is an Air Supply concert tomorrow that is a conflict.) AJ is playing well which never bodes well in the "factoid" category for our Twins. Blackburn on the mound today. Assume that MCA will be in the house in his Blackburn jersey.

Standings -
Chicago - 4 and 2
KC - 4 and 2
Cleveland - 3 and 3
Twins - 3 and 4
Detroit - 0 and 6

Hate to respond to my own post but following the game in Chicago and while we scored in the first the inning ended:

"Delmon Young grounded into a double play, short to second to first to end the inning."

Yeah, the DP stat is HIDEOUS. and really disturbing.

Highlight of Friday night was getting a text from Stenerud saying (earmuffs): "Is Carlos Gomez a bad motherfucker or what?" If he can consistently get on base, I like Mauer and Morneau's RBI chances, as he almost always gets to 2nd on a steal. He's 5-for-5 on the year so far. NIIIIIIICE.

I saw some of the Tigers game last night...they look terrible. Dropping throws, making bad throws, swinging at horrible pitches. You know they'll have it all straight by next week, though. I expect them to put up 10 runs a game on us.

I'll take 2 of 3 from the Royals, but it is quite disconcerting to see Tomko holding anyone to one run. Let's hope guys were saving it for the ChiSox.

BTW, how ruff and tuff do the Memphis Tigers look? YIKES...they made UCLA look like a frightened Dan Monson coached Gophers team out there.

Looks like the Sheik gave up a salami to Crede. Awesome...not sure why Gardy pulled Blackburn after 5 innings...I think his pitch count was 90 or so, but still...

The Sheik is a little scary right now...he doesn't look right. He was all over the place pitching to Vlad last week, and the only reason that his 2-0 non-cutting fastball didn't wind up 420 feet behind him is that everyone in the stadium, including Vlad himself, was thinking that he was nonintentionally, intentionally walking him...now this to Crede... I know it's early, but confidence is vital to a relief pitcher..and right now, I doubt he has it.
