What do we have in Boof?

Watching the game last night I was excited to see Boof take the hill. Have always wanted him to be good, maybe it is because he changed his name legally to Boof and that shows he's got some nards or maybe it is because he was once a rather highly touted prospect or just maybe it is because we now need him to be a solid, reliable #2. When I saw him in the dugout before the start of the game he definitely had trimmed down, not a physical specimen but "I can get past 5 innings this year without being totally gassed." When he took the mound he got passed the first batter but then was he hit hard by the Angels lineup. End of one he had given up 2 runs. He was able to calm down a bit retiring 10 of 11 and ended the night giving up 4 runs, 3 of which were earned (E:Everett), on 8 hits. Not a terrible performance, plus he got a "quality start" for the first time I can remember, and for a Twins lineup that is suppose to produce some runs he got no help. While it is way early I still wonder what we have in Boof. There have been flashes of decency but is he a #2? Granted, begs the question of who else would you slot there but still. . .

He's a no. 3 in my mind. Baker has the potential to be a solid 2, with Liriano the ace if all goes well. Last night's about what we should expect from Boof, I think, although LA Anaheim OC has a really solid lineup so it's really not a bad performance.

In other news, Kubel started and went 1-4. Left some dudes on base but I don't think in scoring position.

Box score anomoly - Reyes pitched to one batter, gave up a hit, then left. That batter didn't score so he's not charged with a run. So his ERA isn't infinity. But it's also not zero, since he didn't record an out. It's technically indeterminable. If this had been the only game he ever played in, he would be a ghost in the statistical archives. Kind of like Moonlight Graham - played in a game, but didn't record an out and never batted, so for purposes of accruing statistics it's like he never existed.

Liriano, Baker, Boof feels a bit better but I think Baker is still a question mark, maybe less of one than Boof.

Love the stats stuff about Denny Reyes. I found out last night his nickname is "Big Sweat." Gross.

Speaking of #3's, do you think Nick Blackburn has been throwing up all morning?

I need to start off by saying that I came home early last night, flipped on the TV, and - god bless DirecTV - turned it to Fox Sports North, and there it was...a Menard's commercial. AT that moment, despite being 1,800 miles from Minneapolis, I was home!

Anyway, I thought Boof pitched all right after settling down...the Angels lineup is pretty rough. They are known for putting it in play and getting on base, so I can't be too busted up about it. I just hope he starts to improve.

Liriano, Livan, Baker, Boof, Slowey seems like the rotation, no?? Blackburn likely just threw up in his mouth for the 3rd time today.

P.S. For all of you except Stenerud, I highly recommend switching to DirecTV and ponying up the $12/month for the sports package.
