Cuddy not clutch?

Why do I always feel like this is how Twins games end?

From the Strib game log 4/3/08 v. Angels when the Twins were down by 1 run in the bottom of the ninth with 2 out -

- Joe Mauer intentionally walked. Runners on first and second with two outs and Michael Cuddyer due up.
- Michael Cuddyer struck out swinging to end the game.

I feel like he never delivers in the clutch. At least he struck out swinging.

It should be known how I feel about Cuddy, but in case it isn't I have never been a real fan. Those years before his breakout year when he didn't produce definitely soured him with me.

So how does everyone feel now? I am still positive despite being 1-3. It is not like they just got swept by the Royals at home (although the Royals are now in town). The bats seem to be a little more worrisome than the pitching.

I like Cuddy the personality - seems down to earth, a hard working good teammate. His breakout season a couple years ago was nothing terribly special in terms of numbers, though. It put him in the better half of right fielders in the league (at least that season), but ideally your right fielder should be driving in 100 runs a year consistently. It's the second least important defensive position on the field, so you better get 25 homers out of the deal. I agree with you guys that it seems like he K's too often, too, but I don't have numbers on it.

I'm also more pleased than I thought I would be with a 1-3 start. Mainly because Blackburn dealt fiercely in his first MLB start, and we went the series without our two best starters.

We'll be alright if Morneau wakes up. JUSTIN, WAKE UP!!! SEASON'S STARTED!

By the way: (1) how wierd is it to go to a Twins box score and see "(W) - Santana" knowing we lost? and (2) am I mistaken, or did we just go a 4-game series with 1 homerun? That has an all too familiar ring about it.

Three of the four games were close. Not that I like moral victories, but all we had heard this offseason was how poor our starting pitching was going to be. Clearly, we may need to worry about the offense.

I saw a bit of game 3, and I was ridiculous how many un-clutch double-plays we hit into. UGh. No worse feeling on offense than seeing your 3, 4, 5 or 6 hitter hit a weak grounder to 2nd with guys on base.

Not too bummed at the 1 and 3 start. Angels are solid at the plate and am excited at Blackburn's debut. Little surprise at the lack of power in this new look offense; particularly Cuddy and Morneau (who was 0 for 10 before yesterday's game, don't know if he got a hit yet.) Defense looks like a typical Twins team, solid; an error on Everett but Bartlett was worse.

Baker on the hill tonight. Hopefully he can do some stuff. Tough part is that Slowey got hurt so looks like Liriano's assignment in Rochester could be short-lived. Either that or release Phil Humber!

There was a good article yesterday about how the Mets execs were watching the Twins game and Gomez's debut and were pumped that he did so well. They talked about how tough it was to give him up and the the Twins really won't know what they have for a while as Delios Guerra is only 18 and apparently a nice secret in the Mets organization. He was also a last minute request by the Twins that surprised the Mets. Maybe blowing smoke but the Mets were saying how 'baseball people' thought it was a lopsided deal when the prospects that were traded were much better than people gave them credit for.
