All tied up...throwdown in Chitown

Jan - you called it, my friend. The Buck Showalter O's took 3-of-4 from Ozzie's crew. And as predicted, it was the offense that failed the Sox. It was only a matter of time until they regressed to their light-hitting mean. The Twins, on the other hand, have won 4 out of 5, and the starters (knock on wood), seem to have rediscovered their mojo. I absolutely never feel good about these series at US Cellular, or whatever their jorts-wearing fans are calling the place these days. We get Freddie Garcia on Tuesday night...and without looking it up, I'm pretty sure he's something like 13-4 against us.

Wow...nice first game of the series. Let's do that again tonight.

Did you guys read Ozzie's latest tactic to motivate his squad?

"Manager Ozzie Guillen went off on another tangent before the game in which he wondered why there was so much attention on the Twins and said his own team does not " feel the support."

Poor White Sox...playing in a market 3 times the size of the Twins. They're not getting the attention they deserve...boo hoo. Nice try, dude...

First off, don't you just love this rivalry? It makes being a Twins fan great. It would be pretty boring if we had to rely on Detroit or our hatred of the Yankees to fuel interest through the whole summer.

Ozzie's partially justified in his whining (although it does get tiring), given that the Sox have to share the media attention here with the most consistently underachieving, mismanaged franchise in the majors, and the Sox still get the short end of the coverage. I read his comments as more of an attempt to take pressure off his team, by noting that everyone's making too big of a deal about this one series in the first half of August. His comment about his discussion with his wife - "Ozzie, the Twins are in town, this is important" "What, are you dating someone from Minnesota or something?"

The genius of Ozzie Guillen is that by putting the spotlight on himself with his constant goofiness, he keeps it off Andrew Jones and Carlos Quentin and Bobby Jenks and their other underperforming players.

Anyway, great start to the series last night. Mauer is raking right now, by the way. 1.189 OPS since the All-Star break. If we steal one tonight, which would be very surprising with Perkins against Danks, we're riding pretty high. Regardless, even if we lose the next two, we'll finish a 10 game road trip with 7 games against playoff contenders at 5-5, and pick up ground in the race along the way. That's quality.

Can't wait for Morneau to get back. This lineup could put up ridiculous numbers from here on out if ever everyone's healthy for a while.

I would much rather had 2 scrambled eggs, hasbrowns, lemon poppy seed muffin and bacon than that shitshow last night, not that it was all Perkins fault. I am sure many guys would come unglued given everything that was going on behind him and on the base baths. I don't get to watch the Twins very often, but it always seems like they turn in one of these performances when I do.

To echo MCA, I love this rivalry. I am sure that both sides feel like they are on the better side of it. I do, but they have the ring and game 163. Maybe I am the delusional one and all of Ozzie talk about piranahs has worked on clouding my vision.
