Can Thome Pitch?

Well, last night was just atrocious. And by that, I mean, horseshit doesn't quite capture it. Gardy said that game "had no pace". I don't know. I thought it did. The type of pace you feel when three ex-cons are raping you in a jail cell that you're in for a crime you didn't commit --- It feels like it's going forever, but it's actually going really fast, which isn't any better because when it's over you're just going to painfully sit there and think about the next raping that's coming your way in about....oh, whenever they open that door.

This pitching staff looks like a minor league squad (double A, maybe). Without Pavano, we would be in fourth place. I hate saying that. I hold out hope that Liriano pitches the way he did the other night, and the Dunce can come in and be a quality starter 75% of the time. Baker, Blackburn and Slowey -- to you, I say "PLEASE!?!!?!?!?" Can't just one of you step up and be somewhat like you sometimes are but then be that way all the time?

My solution is simple -- Thome. He's been aound. I think he can throw, though I am not sure I've ever seen it. Just throw it down the middle and hope Target Field is too big for most people to hit it out. God knows we've shown that to be true. We'd get his bat in there more than once every three games, and well, I like him. I feel good watching him. Then we could DH for Punto.

I saw one play last night on MLBTV. Men on 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs and Span at the plate. He bunts into an easy out. Sweet.

DUDES! I shit you not, due to a technical glitch (or sabotage by dtk) ESPN Gamecast shows Thome pitching to the Indians in the top of the second right now. Imagine my shock when remembering this thread and stumbling upon that!

MCA - Don't make up lies.

I followed that one from afar (literally and figuratively) as I attended a random Monday night family reunion up at Fortune Bay Casino on Lake Vermillion and read the Strib log of the game (Baby Jan was asleep in the room with me, tight quarters) How many LOBs?

Just drove back today and watching game 2 of this series. Just turned it on to wactch Slowey give up a run on a two out double he served up to the Indians #9 hitter on a 1-2 count. I can hear DTK right now "Slowey is a pussy." He got out of the inning but that was followed up by Punto, Span, and Hudson strinking out (well, I think they all did, felt that way.) Pause this moment in time, let's see how Slowey responds (Kirby the Kestrel is there tonight, good omen?)

Can a team take a leave of absence during the season- I don't think it will be more than a week- but it just feels to me that this team needs a week or so off (apparently the time off for the All-Star festivities wasn't enough) to right the ship... I'm going to right Unlce Bud a letter asking for as much-- it doesn't hurt to ask, right?

Very uninspiring baseball right now...we need someone to lead us out of this, and I think it has to be a starting pitcher
