Raising a Minnesota sports fan
Saw this article in the Strib and is something we've kicked around before. As the father of two girls I fully plan to expose them to the pain that goes with being a Minnesota sports fan as much as possible, nothing about character-building blah, blah, blah, it's more that I'm hoping to have things in common with them later on in life so when I'm in the Medicare nursing home and have been sitting in my own urine for 4 days they will at least think "hey, it's Sunday, should we go see Dad and watch the Vikes game?" Sure, their answer will most likely come back as "naaah, screw him, he smells like piss all the time" but at least I popped in their head for a second before they got on their personal aircraft and flew to the moon. Best Dad in the world.
(hey, DTK and RTS, the author "Ben Grossman", I assume it's "Benji" from TBS class of 1992.)

First positive thing posted here in three weeks. Y'all can put down your shotguns now. Jan, let's see a pic of your dog in a purple "Wilf" jersey. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/football/nfl/05/10/minnesota-vikings-stadium.ap/index.html?sct=hp_t2_a2

2012 Twins: God Awful or Unbelievably Shitty?
What does my view of the Twins' future have in common with Stevie Wonder?
Neither of us sees any bright spots.
This team is just awful. I actually found myself hoping we were going to get no-hit again, because if we are going to be sad and terrible, i want these guys to be downright humiliated. It's hard to see us getting to 62 wins if Iron-Man Morneau keeps up his current pace to play in 100 games, and play badly in 90 of them, we have one guy hitting over .300, and only one other guy even close, and it's not our marquis player we pay $20 million a year for six more years, and our pitching staff is made up entirely of pitch to contact "experts" who's only value is to force you into the sophie's choice of sports- whether you'd rather they put guys on base by walking them or put them on base by letting them get hits.
We've gone - in two short years - from being a world series contender to a team that looks like the kids they let shag fly balls in batting practice.

Vikings Vote - Get Involved
Vikings stadium goes before a vote Monday afternoon, as of 9:50am Sunday, all signs point to this not getting done, officially obliterating any attachment I will have to Minnesota. Instead if sitting idle, I emailed my representative DFLer Steve Simon the following, just one man's voice
To: Steve Simon
"You came to my door and asked for my vote in the last election, I now ask you represent me and vote "Yes" for funding a Vikings stadium. While a football fan, I want this stadium because without the Vikings Minnesota will be "a cold Omaha" (to paraphrase Sid Hartman from years ago.) Politicians are acting like children, it's now embarrassing. Get it done. I'll watch for your vote on Monday and depending on which way you go, you can watch for mine next time around. If you vote "No" - skip my house when you campaign, you won't be welcome."
