Good for them. I am minimally excited, although I didn't make time to watch any of the regional action. Thoughts:
1. The fact we went three consecutive years without even making the tournament, for just the second time since the '60's, and Lucia wasn't canned, still bothers me a bit.
2. When he does get there, he seems to do well, with the exception of the Holy Cross debacle. So there's that. I'm slightly concerned that if he wins another title he'll be named coach for life. Which, I guess, I shouldn't complain about because he'd have won three national championships. But I'd rather it be a coach I like.
3. Haven't seen much of this team, but they can score some goals and have a lot more offensive depth than we've shown in recent years. Top offense in the nation, actually. (BC's #6, though).
4. We're young. Hopefully one of Haula or Bjugstad is the only undergrad who leaves after the season - if so this will be a really good team next year if they can find goaltending. I'm assuming Bjugstad leaves after getting injured after starting so hot this year, but then again maybe he wants to be a Hobey Baker finalist, too.
5. BC scares the shit out of me right now. They've won 17 straight games. Yes. 17. Not unbeaten. W's. The Gophers' propensity the last two seasons to start series slowly (Friday night vs. Saturday night records diverge significantly; I blame this on Lucia), if the U doesn't come out guns blazing they could get blown out of the arena like UMD did yesterday. I assume the ice in Tampa is not Olympic-sized, which doesn't favor us. If we score first, I predict, we win.

This is a Gopher team predicted to finish 6th in the WCHA at the outset of the season so it's all gravy, as they say.
MCA has some valid points, agree on the Lucia thing (he did have some mystery illness the last couple years that sidetracked him - I think the illness was called 'losing' but i could be wrong.)
I like our youth, what we don't know. . . but MCA is right, Friday night games were killers for us, thankfully the game is on a Thursday.
I am going to a wedding of a BC fan (he actually claims all teams from Massachusettes as his own so that's kinda lame) and I'm sure the conversation will turn to East Coast hockey v. The State of Hockey.
On the NIT - yay! We are either the 65th or 66th best team!
