Happy Birthday to F'ing Me

1. Yup, my birthday. Happy Birthday to me, I am awesome.

2. It's amazing that one of the reasons the Twins have sucked is now being touted as a revolutionary playmaker.

Jan happy birthday. I got you the same thing I always get you... nothing.

Maybe Alexi should only bat in those situations, he sure can't hit a lick at any other time. Who else did we get with him for JC Romero? Anyone? Bueller?

I remember that as being a straight-up trade, but could totally be wrong.

Maybe we now have an answer for the question of "What is going on in Alexi Casilla's head when he appears lost in the clouds in the field so often?" He's thinking about delicious game-ending hits.

Here's my rant for the week: Yes, I still refuse to call them "walk-off" hits. It's a made up, bullshit term that didn't exist 10 years ago, used for something that already had a name. It also describes a meaningless distinction unworthy of its current elevated status. It's just ESPN-generated hype. I know it's a little more dramatic, especially if it's a come-from-behind win. But why is a game-winning RBI that comes in the bottom of the 9th so massively celebrated, while a game-winning RBI in the top of the 9th is treated as comparatively meaningless?

And the endless hyping of "walkoff" hits has changed the game, too. I don't know about you all, but I don't recall major leaguers acting like they just won the Little League World Series after every game they won in the bottom of the 9th when we were younger. Big deal. It's one game out of 162. You don't need to mob the plate after winning an extra innings game in April just because you did it at home.

MCA - well said. I remember the term literally sounding new to me about 7-8 years ago on SportsCenter. Totally made-up. And yes, it does seem ridiculous that a team this far out of first place (any team, really), should celebrate like that after winning one game.

Alexi has been on fire recently. I hope Gardy figured out how to keep him focused like this. He's almost like the kid with ADHD at the local grade school. When he's focused and taking his meds, he's quite impressive...but if not, watch out.

Twins 11 games out...31 of next 41 at home. Again...all I am asking for is a reason to keep following them. Span on DL...serenity now!

Not just on the DL - on the DL because of a concussion. No history with this team and concussions, right?

This team's list of wounded is impressive: Mauer and Nishioka still on the 60 day; Thome, Span, Slowey, Nathan, and Perkins on 7 or 15 day; Capps, Liriano, Blackburn, and Morneau still listed as day-to-day. That's the start of a pretty good team.
