5-game winning streak!
I know this should not excite me, but I am pleased with the Twins' 5-game winning streak. They swept KC, who seems better than they've been in recent years. Cleveland is backsliding, but they are still in first place, so a couple more wins means we gain a couple more games in the standings. It's very encouraging to see the AAA guys stepping up...and make no mistake, a AAA lineup is what we're fielding right now. When Morneau, Kubel, Young, Mauer and Span are all out of the lineup, you can easily see why we have the worst record in baseball. Repko, Revere, Tolbert and Butera should not be playing right now, though I'm glad guys like Revere and Repko are indeed getting some experience.
Strib is breaking down the four major factors in the Twins' precipitous collapse in a four-part series. Kudos to Father BG for sending the articles along. Day one broke down the mismanagement of the catcher position outside of Mauer. Granted, we pretty much had to make the Capps trade last year, but giving up Wilson Ramos was tough. Part 2 detailed the demise of the bullpen, which has the worst ERA in MLB this year. Yikes. Anxious to see where they go in parts 3 and 4.

BG - it is a bright day to wake up with a Twins win, no doubt. 5 in a row is the start of something. Did we get all of the bad games out of us? No. Do we have to win something like .750 of our games to win 88ish, yes. is that possible? Yes. Do i believe? Maybe.

We won today, but let me just state the obvious- Matt Caps blows. I am not faulting the Twins for getting him. He was the Nats closer and he was supposed to shore up our bullpen. That has not happened. He has been as bad of an acquisition as Rick Reed. Remember that guy and all the dingers he gave up? We only gave up Matt Lawton for him. Again, a move that needed to be made at the time, but did not pan out at all.

Way to go, guys. I blame the end of that streak on you two.
At least one of Parts 3 and 4 should justifiably be about injuries, or at least the coincidence of them with the failures of the callups, for the first time in a decade, to produce at a level that surprises every one else in the league.
Take solace, though, Minnesota - you lead the nation with not one, but TWO entries in the Republican Party World Class Clown Show 2012! Aren't we all just so proud.

Great to get a win today, but disturbing to see Capps blow another save. Also encouraging to see Pavano throw another good ballgame.
30 of our next 40 are at the big bullseye. Our home record sucks this year, but still...just sayin'.

P.S. Part 3 of the series blames the botched middle infield experiment. Yes, Nishi got hurt, but they claim this was doomed from the beginning, given that the Twins were trying to pair a historically immature/underachieving, first-time starter (Casilla) with a guy who is brand-new to the US version of the game and who doesn't speak English. Their argument is that keeping Hardy and going with one or the other at 2nd would have been a WAY better gamble.
