Game 1

Wow, never saw that one coming (sarcasm font, bold, italic, frowning face, OMG). Seriously, this is so old. We jump out to a good lead. Blow it on a fluke triple. That ball looked like it was going to be a routine fly ball but it just kept carrying into the wall. Then we give up the homer, that if we had better luck would have gone foul. The only 2 surprises were that we tied it at 4 and that the blown call in the 9th was in our favor. As soon as the odds are out Gamblor is betting on the Yanks the rest of the series.

Doom and gloom around minnesota today. I dvr'ed and was able to catch up to live action just in time to see the yankees take a 4 to 3 lead 'live.' I would say that it was my fault but I no longer subscribe to the notion I (we) impact the outcome of games (yes, I'm 36) as if that was the case we would have won a few more titles by now by my efforts alone.

Bright spot: randy is at winter park today practicing and has a news conference later on.

oh, and one more thing, remember how my dad brought a buddy due to my travel schedule? Well, they sat down the first base line and my dad's buddy caught a foul ball. MY FOUL BALL.

I said this to Jan yesterday, but I am going to say it again. This is what happens when you don't play to win all the time. I am confident we can still win, and yes, these guys never quit. But year in and year out the one thing we lack is teh instinct to crush somebody's fucking windpipe when our foot is on their throat. We have had leads in almost every playoff game against the yankees and we blow them everytime. When you have ten games left and clinch the division, you should play with enough pride to fight like hell to get home field for your fans. You should fight like hell to be able to say you had the best record in baseball when all it takes is to beat the worst team in baseball because you should know that winning is an attitude and an instinct you can't shut off and then just expect to turn it back on. They don't quit, they don't play lazy, they don't play like chumps. But they almost never play with a champion's edge. I am not sure the look in their eye is scared, but it's definitely not the look of a guy who's going to stand over your grave to make sure that you're dead. When it's 3-0 in the 6th, we need to make it 10. and when it's 10, we need to make it 12. this is the playoffs. you play like a champion every inning, every out, every pitch and if not you go home. Let's hope that the end of the season was just a let up and yesterday was a wakeup.

We win game two, and we will be back here next tuesday winning game 5.

After stewing for 45 minutes on my commute this morning, I am going to say one negative thing, and then stay positive. Gardy absolutely HAD to get Liriano out of there after Cano's single put guys at the corners, with the Twins up 3-1. We have an allegedly great bullpen...USE IT! Agree with DTK that the game was there for our taking, but there was no knockout punch. God I hate the Yankees...multiple admitted steroid users, $250MM payroll, odd collection of outfielders that somehow beat us (Granderson, really?).

Okay...positives. We put up 4 runs against their top starter. If we live to face him again, he'll be on short rest after laboring last night. Liriano absolutely cruised for 5 innings. That should instill some confidence in our staff. We still have another home game and then face the Yankees' shakiest starter on Saturday. If we somehow make it back to TF for game 5, we will win.

OK, I need to think about something else. Mauer (or someone) needs to throw some barstools and give a rousing speech today. This is OUR time!
