Twins Trip Down Memory Lane: 1987 AL West Champs

My lovely wife Mrs. Jan was cleaning out some boxes of hers in our basement and stumbled across this gem. At the time she was living in DC as her pops was working for a Minnesota senator. She and her brother got some pretty great access to the Twins that year (my bro-in-law went to the White House lunch after the Twins won the World Series.)

Not sure where this hat popped up but the names autographed on it are (left to right): Blyleven, Tom Kelly, Kirby (up by the patch), Sweet Music, and Steve Carlton.

That is quite a collection of autographs. Not a snoozer on there.

I am not worried about last night. That was just them getting a lot of frustration out. We still took the series.

That is pretty sweet, Jan. I love 80s-style hats, by the way. Everything just seems a little mis-proportioned.

Next two games vs. the Halos are on national TV. Today on Fox and tomorrow night on ESPN. As luck would have it, I will be gone this afternoon and am going to the Vikes/Niners preseason game on Sunday evening. Probably would have skipped it had I known the Twins were on SUnday Night Baseball!

BG I am guessing you really wished you had skipped the Vikes game last night. I opted for the Twinkies game myself. i was flipping and eventually forgot to flip back to the Vikes.

How about a shout out to KC taking 2 of 3 from the Sox. All 3 games go to extra innings within a 24 hour period. Demoralizing.

Yeah...the Vikes game was a waste of time. A buddy from high school had gotten free tix from a guy who works for the Niners (pimp seats), so I committed a couple months ago. We left mid-way through the 3rd quarter after yet another Sage Rosenfels-led 3-and-out.

We actually sat next to a guy who played center at Colorado with Eric Bienemy (Vikes RB coach) and was drafted by the Packers (and stuck in the league until 1996 or so). Chatted him up a bit and he said that APs problem is that he never learned how to switch the ball into his left hand, so defenders always know where to start swinging at it.

A couple quick hits on the Purple:
1) Our O-line needs to step it up. They are all veteran guys, but they were relatively leaky at the end of last year.

2) Needless to say, we really need Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin. AP looked good, but without a passing threat, our running game was really bad.

3) TJack looks really athletic out there and does throw a very nice ball. If he could ever catch up on the decision-making end, he may actually be a good QB.

4) 2nd string defense looked great. I guess that bodes well for the future?

Nice weekend for the Twins...and yes, thank you Royals!!
