Look at me now

Hi, my name is JUSTIN Morneau (MORE-No) and I was the AL MVP in 2006. I am also the 2008 home run champ and am currently hitting .323 with 14 HRs, 68 RBIs, and have a .391 OBP. I play for the Minnesota Twins who are 1.5 games out of first place and sitting at 53-42. Oh, and I just went 2 for 4 in the All-Star game and scored the winning run. Remember me now, bitches?

Seriously, great night for the good guys from MN last night. Mauer had a hit and a walk, Morneau went 2-4 with 2 runs and Nathan had a dominant 8 pitch, 1-2-3 inning. Nice.

I was listening to the game driving home, and the guys on the radio interviewed Nathan after his inning, after which they wondered aloud why he doesn't get mentioned in the same sentence with the "dominant" closers. To this, one of them (Dave Campbell?) replied, "well, sometimes you just have to play in a big market, I guess."

Not sure what my point is, but it's crazy that these three guys are somehow still relatively anonymous to the average baseball fan, though I guess you could argue that Mauer has some name brand recognition, given that he was voted in by the fans.

Poor Dan Uggla...wow, what a terrible game. And how about Yankee fans booing Papelbon at full volume?

Was anyone else pulling for the teams to run out of pitchers? I went to sleep after Jason Mornew grounded out with the bases loaded and was hoping to wake up to Bud Selig with some egg on his face. I will never forgive Bud for trying to contract the Twins.

Only Jan will remember/get this, did Uggla remind you of someone we know in the HS playoffs when we were seniors?

Uggla = one Brett Shogren. Did he have 3 errors? Wowza.

"Sometimes you just have to play in a big market" sums it all up.

I had no problem with the booing of Papelbon. Apparently he was whining yesterday that he should be the "closer" since he is on a better team/won the W.S. last year and not Mariano. There are so many players on the Red Sox that I hate now it is unreal. I guess I only like Jacoby Ellsbury but that may be because he is part Native American than anything else. You know all the "Murphs" and "Sullies" over in "Southie" root for these guys on the field but if they were to cross over into their neighborhoods it would be a different story.

I can tell you one thing: Cubs and Phillies fans hate Dan Uggla this morning with a white hot passion. The NL pennant winners losing home field advantage can be pinned on at least three different Uggla moments last night.

Seriously, Joe Joe and Justin should be known around baseball as this decades Three Amigos, for crying out loud. Credit to Joe Buck, I guess, for at least mentioning Nathan in the same breath as K-Rod, Papelbon, et al last night. Also, wow, the NL's closers could not possibly be more inferior to the AL's.

I think Gardy should have a t-shirt made for Morneau to wear to All-Star Media Day 2009. It will be a giant "Hello, my name is _____________" sticker on the front, with "JUSTIN" scribbled in. On the back, it can say "2006 A.L. MVP, three-time All-Star. Perhaps you've heard of me, eh?" He should send one to Erin Andrews, too.

I think the Papelbon thing was mostly an overblown media creation. He backed off the initial statements, but the NY media treated it like he was saying he thought he was better than Rivera. So they verbally abused his wife in the parade and mercilessly booed an AL player during the All-Star game. This is why we all love Yankees fans. Stay classy! I guess I have a tough time totally disliking Papelbon, though I'm enjoying his more pedestrian level of success after all the initial hype. It's hard to truly hate a guy who got a couple teammates to dress up like Milli Vanilli with him and tape a "Blame It on The Rain" segment to play on the scoreboard during rain delays at Fenway. I mean, c'mon, that's pretty funny.

Not related at all but I saw this on ESPN.com today:

Francisco Liriano, 20 months removed from Tommy John surgery, is 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 24 strikeouts in his last 20 innings for Triple-A Rochester, so the Twins are likely to summon him very soon.

RTS - word around here on Liriano is that the front office wants to keep him down there for the year so he builds up strength etc however considering those numbers you showed I don't see how they could.
