How about a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T?

Idyllic Minnesota 4th of July weekend. Up at the cabin, Twins game on, warm breeze, cold beer and ba low out on Friday night followed by a nice comeback win on Saturday night. Twins go on to sweep the Indians by beating Cliff Lee yesterday (walks will haunt) and head to Boston and Detroit for a road swing before the break. Of course no one is talking about us right now (even as we reach the 50 win mark) and all eyes are focused on the Rays (understandable) and the Red Sox in the AL. Even the White Sox are getting less repect than they deserve (yes, I said it.) Whatever, not like we haven't been here for the past 7 years anyway, just thought that by now someone would notice that Perkins, Slowey, Blackburn, and Baker have developed nicely into a young, starting rotation and that our line-up is pretty good (not to mention we are back to playing solid, fundamental baseball.)

Nice that Joe, Justin, and Joe are going to the All-Star game. Represent.

The Twiuns hitting is amazing right now. If they fell behind by more than acouple in previous years, it was game over. They just could not muster up the runs. But now, it is only a matter of time before the hit parade starts.

Twins/Redsox is on ESPN tonight. This series is big. While The Twins have not been able to gain that much ground on the White Sox, they have made a huge move in the WC standings with the Red SOx being the only team ahead of the Twins.

I saw this at the bottom of Friday nights game notes:

Minnesota signed RHP Carlos Gutierrez, the 27th overall pick in the 2008 draft. Gutierrez pitched for the University of Miami and reported to Single-A Fort Myers Friday.

Like I texted BG - "We are pussies on the road." That team needs to get back to playing loosey goosey, last night they had the same tense look that they carry into Yankee stadium every time we play the Yankees. It's not like we played poorly, Delmon couldn't have looked like freaked out during that second at bat with the bases juiced. We should have won that 5 to 1.

I have total confidence in this squad, we'll bounce back tonight. I'm thinking this is a .500 road trip so. . .

This is from Twins Sports blog (Christensen? on Strib)

1) Scott Baker threw 94 pitches and was spent after seven innings. The game-time temp was 82 degrees, and it was plenty humid.

“You get a little gassed,” he said. “There’s no breaks [in Boston’s lineup]. It’s almost like a playoff atmosphere in this stadium. You’re letting it fly pretty much the whole game.”

2) Brian Bass had a 1.23 ERA over the previous two weeks.

3) Manny Ramirez batted .161 on Boston’s just completed 3-7 road trip.

4) Righthanded hitters were batting .291 against Hideki Okajima, compared to .220 for lefties.

5) Delmon Young has put the first pitch in play in 57 of his 339 plate appearances this season. He is batting .304 when that happens.

Tough to swallow a loss to Boston when you hold that lineup to one run. That's my issue...otherwise, yes, it should be good for our overall psyche to know that we can shut them down.

Agree that inexperience (lots of young guys) probably hurts this team in NY and Boston. They need to chill out...we're 1.5 games out a week before the break. Essentially playing with house money. Get back to having fun, playing piranha-esque ball.
