Twins Open Tryouts

Twinkies are holding open tryouts at the Dome. LH - As discussed, next year you have to come back and do this, I plan on making a documentary about it. Please note: "Participants should bring their own gloves and shoes, with the Twins providing bats and balls" - I assume you have the requisite equipment but considering you plan to showcase at least 7 pitches to major league scouts, you'd better bring your 'balls' too.

Several players have been signed to minor league contracts at open tryouts, most recently Chris Brown from the Fort Myers camp in 2004 and Justin Arneson out of the Minneapolis camp in 2002. Three players have made it to the Major Leagues -- pitchers Charley Walters (1966) and Gary Serum (1975) and shortstop Jerry Terrell (1968).

Do I need to say more?

Next year should work out great. I probably need about a year to get in MLB shape and I should probably go out and field a few balls first... I'm not worried about "the arm", during my recent baseball stadium tour(aka Baseboozelooza 2008) I hit 61 in Cleveland and topped out at 66 in Detroit on their respective stadium radar guns, sure my arm tingled for 45 minutes after throwing 3 pitches, but I don't see that as much of an issue...I think I may just have to rely on more of my off-speed stuff.

Let this forum by the official record, barring injuries, I will be there next year- anyone else in?

I think that "tingle" you felt was the same "tingle" that Jack Morris described right before going out for the 10th in Game 7 of 1991. Or maybe I have that confused with the "tingle" Liriano told Gardy about in 2006. Either way, you have a "tingle" most guys never even get that far.

I'd like to thank of it as the Jack morris tingle... though adding a shorter ligament to my arm may result in me being able to hit the upper 60s... it might be worth considering- I don't know if scouts view the upper 60's any diifferently than they do the lower 60s

Are these tryouts literally open to anyone? Sort of like how anyone can declare themselves eligible for the NBA draft (or at least they used to be able to).

I know that to break into the adult movies it is very difficult for guys to get a shot. Often times they pair up with a hot chick and go in as a package. LH and Jan could team up as pitcher and catcher to increase their chances. I know I have heard more than once how Jan shoved some kid name Dirk when he scored while Jan was catching for SWAC. Jan has the AJ Pierzineski swagger that teams look for.

Point of clairification - It was not me to shoved Dirk Hackett (yes, real name) it was Ebin Sandler who shoved him.

Also, considering my days behind the plate calling a game ended in the 9th grade, I think I should stick to managing LH's career instead of trying to be a part of it.

BG - Yup, tryouts are open to all which is why I would love to make the documentary about LH trying out and calling it something like "Field of (Dashed) Dreams"

If by "(Dashed)", you mean "realized", I like it.

Just for the record I can't vote on the poll. I like Buscher and am not a fan of Harris. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Anyone see the article where the manager of the Marlins called Matt Garza a "recoving emotionalist." I thought it was funny.

The poll thingy has been broken for a day now, not sure why (believe me, the good people at Blogger are going to wish they never gave us a free blog after I get done with them!)

Didn't see that on Garza, I think I am going to work "recovering emotionalist" into my repetoire.

I did see this on Garza from his game today:

M. Garza (TAM)
9 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 10 K, Win

It was actually the Rays manager that said he was a recovering emotionalist.
