Gamblor Week 2: BBQ Ribs

It seems a lot of decent teams played a FCS school last week and scheduled a FBS chump for week 2. Coach Barrons (volunteer, Blake 1990) said "When that WR reaches up to grab that pass, it is BBQ ribs baby! Take a bite!" The favorites take a bite this weekend.

$50 Iowa -6.5 @ Iowa State. Maybe more heart than brains went into this one. Iowa looked alright routing Tennessee Tech last week, but nothing great. Iowa has won 6 of the last 8 and 3 in a row straight up in the series.

$50 Bama -10 @ Penn State. Is this a set up? If PSU scores more than 10 points I will be shocked.

$50 Ohio State -19 Vs Toledo. The answer: 42-0, 73-20 and 38-0. The question: What were the scores of the last 3 Ohio State vs MAC games? The trend is your friend.

$50 Virginia -6.5 Vs Indiana. Yes, I might get whipsawed. Indiana took me down last week when Ball St pushed them around the field. The last time these two teams met Virginia won 47-7 (2009).

$50 Stanford -21 @ Duke. Duke put up 21 in a two point loss to Richmond. Stanford beat 9 teams last year by more than 21. I am betting that even if Duke can match last weeks total, the Cardinal puts up more than 42.

First two out:

SC -3 @ Georgia. GA should have won this game a year ago, but lost on a late fumble. The two teams have been going in different directions since. I am just not sure SC is that special.

M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A -20 Vs New Mexico State. NMST is bad, really really bad. I just don't trust the Gophers giving 20, yet.

One dog:

Michigan +3.5 vs Notre Dame. I was hard pressed to even find a dog I would shout out. This is the first night game at the Big House. If Michigan can not hang for this one...

Follow up:

Iowa was in front by 7, gave up a late TD and lost in OT. Blowing a late 4th qtr lead is too familiar to last year.

Indiana now accounts for 2 of my 4 losses. Bought high, sold low.

OSU, I did not see what happened in this mess, but the trend was not my friend.

Alabama/PSU pretty much went according to script. PSU only went over 10 because of a late meaningless 2 pt conversion.

Stanford/Duke looking only at the final score, another game that followed the script.

NMST/Minn was the game so bad it sent Jerry Kill to the hospital? They say it was dehydration that caused the seisure, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once, and I am guessing it had more to do with the Gophers going down to a team that had only won 8 games in the last 3 years.

Oh, and it was NMSU's first win against a BCS conference school since 1999. Sweet!

How 'bout those Vikes!?!?!? Take a 10 point lead into the half and get, what, 2 more first downs the rest of the game? Did you guys read the box score? 39 yards passing. THIRTY-NINE!! I'd be willing to bet Army and Navy each passed for twice that this weekend. Wasn't all McNabb's fault. Our LT is awful. Awful. Not once did he get a body on Shaun Phillips. Why did we let McKinnie go again? Oh, right...because he was out of shape.

Serenity now.

Let's not forget that the Bears trounced the media darling Falcons, the Packers offense was well-nigh unstoppable, and the Lions looked as above average as advertised. Could be a long year. Then again, we held the Chargers to 24 at home and Percy certainly started the season with a bang.

Generally speaking, I'm refusing to believe Saturday, September 10, 2011 even occurred in college football. I'd give up the happy feelings Michigan's last minute miracle against Notre Dame provides in order to forget pretty much everything else about the day.

I did not see the game and the only play I saw was Harvin's kick return. Looking at the boxscore it looks like this game should have been 49-7. AP had 16 carries. McNabb only had 15 attempts throwing the ball. Rivers had 48. Where did all the other Viking plays go? Was the Vikes defense on the field the whole game? How did the Chargers not put up more?
