Donovan F. McNabb and your Minnesota Vikings

Well boys, it looks like McNabb will be joining the Vikes, assuming he agrees to restructure the last year on his contract ($14.5M), and all signs point to that, in fact, happening. At first glance, this appears to be a continuation of the never-ending veteran QB carousel in MN, but the reality is that this is different. For once, the Vikes took a promising QB in the draft, and for 0nce, they just want said veteran to play for a year (or less?) so that the promising rookie doesn't have to start in week 1 without having any offseason to prepare.

The way I see it, two things could happen here:

Glass Half Full BG viewpoint: McNabb has a lot to prove after getting run out of town by both Andy Reid and Mike Shanahan. He is only 34, and looked amazing against the Vikes in the 2009 playoffs. He has a solid bounceback year, the Vikes' O-Line holds together, they get one more good year out of Jared Allen, Kevin Williams and Antoine Winfield, and they sneak into the playoffs at 10-6.

Glass Half Empty BG viewpoint: McNabb is essentially washed up, but better for him to take the pounding behind a terrible line than to spook our QB of the future right out of the gates. He starts the first 8 or 9 games and then Ponder takes over. Vikes finish 5-11 and begin the rebuilding process in earnest.

At the least, this makes me more interested in watching the Vikes this year...but in reality, this is an 8-8 team. Another prediction: the Bears go 7-9 this year, as do the Lions...with the Packers running away and hiding in the division at 12-4 (I think I just threw up in my mouth).

I like the glass half full BG but feel like the glass half empty BG is right.

How many QBs can one franchise hope to retread? Apparently a lot. I like the move from the "veteran will help rookie" perspective and also from the "let McNabb take the beating" perspective, I guess I just wish, well, I wish we had won the SuperBowl two years ago so I wouldn't have to care that McNabb is now our starting QB.

On another note, good luck in Seattle Sidney Rice you dumb fuck. Have fun with TJac tossing you the ball. Asshole. Thanks for not getting that surgery you needed either, hope your career ends in training camp when you blow out your knee.

Reading the article on ESPN, it states this has been rumored for 5 years. I would have been much more excited 5 years ago, with excitement decreasing in each following year, bring us to now. It is better than Tjac or Favre options but still nothing to get super excited about. This kind of feels like the Denny Green era of revolving QBS.

While I am not going to wish a knee blowout on anyone, I do wish Sidney Rice only TJ Houshmanzadeh like success with Seattle (3tds, 900 yds). As much as anyone he was at fault for last years debacle.

You guys beat me to the punch on Sidney Rice. REALLY dude? You want to reunite with Darrell Bevell and T-Jac?! Oh, that's right, Matt Lienart could start as well. Yippeee! Rice was hugely responsible for last year's debacle, so yes, he is on my all-time shit list going forward, despite having been HUGE during the 2009 run.

When you say TJac will be tossing him the ball, you mean "over or under tossing him the ball." Or "tossing him the ball 10 yards behind him."

RTS - you're right on not wishing anyone to blow out a knee, what I meant to say is that I hope he blows out both knees.

Cheers to Jan and his in your face style. Let me tell you something Sydney Rice, if that's even your name, I don't give a shit about u or your career. You chose to not take care of yourself and hide your injuries from the team that was paying you so that you could improve your negotiating position. It backfired. And Your selfishness RUINED our season. I believe that.

A healthy rice would have changed favres year. it would have spared us the moss debacle, and would have saved us a draft pick.

You had one good season with a good team having a great year and a QB having an mvp year. I suspect T-Jak is unlikely to have such a year. And let me tell you why, you piece of shit - because he's never had one. Though, in fairness, that's hard to tell because he gets hurt every three games.

So fuck you, Sidney Rice. Your leaving has turned me into a Donovan McNabb fan.

I'm sensing a lot of anger on this here blog recently. Heat of the summer getting to everyone? Or is it just the disappointment that we have to actually hold this NFL season now? It looked like, through the miracle of labor strife amongst multi-millionaires, we might be able to escape it, and the Vikings' futile pursuit of anything better than mediocrity, for a whole 12 months. That felt a potentially nice break for our fragile fan psyches.

I'm with y'all on Sidney Rice, though. Man. Good f'ing riddance.
