I've been saying this for awhile, but Sarah Palin is the perfect, logical endgame distillation of the wingnut breeding program the Republican Party has been engaged in the last 20 years: incurious, aggressively anti-intellectual, nutso religious, cocksure, shamelessly dishonest, opposed to science, power abusing, cynical, and uninterested in what actual governance is all about. Why do we keep electing these f'ing people?

This is the future of the Republicans. If McCain loses, Palin will be running in '12. The Bush model has been a complete, utter, miserable failure, and has thoroughly betrayed the actual principles of political conservatism at every opportunity. So, what do Republicans do? Double down. Her ascendance might just tear the party apart for good. Believe it or not, I don't actually think that's a good thing.
