We are who we thought we were

Another one given away... Wow is this a frustrating road trip. Trying to rationalize it all I think the squad will be able to use this for years to come as they will never have another road trip like it again.

The losses on this trip have been:

LAA - 7-5
LAA - 5-3
SEA - 4-2 (11 innings)
SEA - 3-2
OAK - 3-2
OAK - 3-2
TOR - 7-5
TOR - 5-4 (11 innings)

Not like we are getting blown out but we aren't winning the close ones either and it feels like we are constantly two players short of getting the win - a set up guy (the "Sheik") and a bat (dare I say Cuddy?)

23 games left: 11 on the road and 12 at the dome. We will probably go 4 and 7 on the road and 9 and 3 at home (might be a stretch on that one) to finish at 90-72. Since we aren't getting the wildcard, does that win the division?

Baseball is a team sport and I think there is enough blame to go around for everyone. That being said if they somehow win today and come back home only 1/2 game out of first I would call the trip a success.

This coming from a guy who called the Dukakis/Bentsen presidential ticket a 'success' because they won 10 states and D.C.

I agree, though. Half a game out coming home is actually solid, just tough to watch us not take advantage when we needed to.

Don't get me wrong, I am not pleased by the trip. The Twins did flame out of the WC picture. I am just saying that at least the White Sox did not tear it up putting us 4 back in each race.

Did the Duke win 10 states? I would have put the over/under at about 5 1/2 if you count DC in there.

Anyone else think that Palin looks like the drunk chick on Will and Grace?

Dudes, sorry I've been absent. Good discussions recently. I watched the end of the Nathan throwing the ball away to blow a 2-1 lead in Oakland game while at home for Labor Day and have managed not to pay any attention since then. This is kind of like watching the Vikes at the end of last season - if we somehow manage to sneak into the playoffs because the White Sox implode, I don't think we really deserve it at this point, and we're not in a position to win anything with our bullpen in its current shape.

13-3 is ridiculous. Did any of these people catch any of the preseason and/or notice that McKinnie got a 4 game suspension?

Great call on Palin, rts. Perhaps that impression was fed by her giving a speech that ran the gamut from inexplicably, tone deaf nasty to incredibly condescending. Nice.

This may sound counter-intuitive, but if you had told me we'd only be 1.5 games out after that road trip, I would have said "I'll take it." Now, what burns me is how many games we literally GAVE away. Any Twins bullpen from the last 3 years would have gotten us 3-4 more wins on that trip. Awful.

I just hope they muster enough energy to take it to the Tigers and Royals this weekend and next week.
