Get that broom ready

Yeah, I said it. Get that broom ready. That win couldn't have been bigger (well, Baker's win but c'mon.) I would like to revisit my comment to MCA's post from yesterday where I pointed out: "Can we throw Jose Mijares out there for the 7th and 8th innings instead of Crain/Breslow/Guerrier/Reyes? I have more confidence in a guy I have seen pitch once than dudes I have watched all season." What a huge inning he had, he faced Jim Thome, Paul Konerko, Ken Griffey Jr. and sent them down 1-2-3 (this after starting out 3-0 against Thome!) He is my Hardware Hank Player of the Game. The Dome is gonna be loud tonight. I loved seeing a few homer hankies last night (BTW - closed circuit to Brewer's fans, those hankies you are waving are lame, why don't you just get yourselves some 'thundersticks' and call it a day.)

As I recounted to bg last night, I counted the number of times Hawk and D.J. brought up the missed call on Gomez at second throughout the rest of the game. Tally: eight. I loved it. They alternated the entire game between (i) outright despair for the Sox because they simply cannot manufacture runs the old-fashioned way (including one time where they both agreed with no hesitation that they'd trade the Sox offense for the Twins in a heartbeat), (ii) bitching about the umpiring, (iii) jerking off to how awesome Gardy and the Twins organization is (Corey Koskie apparently wandered by them in the booth and said hello at one point, and they reacted like it was Cal Ripken or something), and (iv) bemoaning the awful luck befalling the Sox every time the Twins got a single that wasn't a smash line drive. That's four flavors of pure awesome entertainment, folks. If they're a reflection of the White Sox mentality, the pressure will be so high on them to win tonight that Konerko might spontaneously combust. They are so terrified of leading all season and blowing it at the last second that they're acting like it's already happened.

Let's go, Slowey!!!

MCA - loved your Koskie/Ripken comment. Laughed out loud at work.

I think Ozzie's problem is that he has a team of veterans who, as far as I can tell, aren't really sure they like one another.

Guys,
Love the 5 solid innings from Blackburn (although did you hear ozzie's rant after the game? the one claiming his stuff was crap and the Sox should have crushed him?). Anyway, when was the last time the bullpen tossed 4 shutout innings?!?!? Let's hope Slowey can last 6 or 7 tonight....

Also, I got the mindf*** of a lifetime last night, as the Yahoo gamecast showed "3-2 Twins, mid-9th," which should mean the game is over, right? Well, a minute later the phone rings, and MCA is telling me this is as nervous as he's been watching a ballgame in years. HUH?!? Guess the game's not over! Now, I wasn't quite to the Eddie Guardado jump in the closet level of fear, but let's just say I became very nervous as well, especially after Nathan walked swisher on 4 pitches. Luckily, we were able to slam the door.

Let's go Slowey!!!

If it's close tonight, I will be in my closet. Just putting that out there.

That last at bat on gamecast hung like a Barry Zito curveball. If it says ball in play and then real quickly the ball graphic comes up it is an out for sure. If there is a delay between the ball in play message and the ball graphic, it is a hit. Last night that last out, had me quaking in my chair waiting for the damage to come up.

ALong the same lines as Konerko spontaneously combusting due the pressure, A.J. said " You know what? We win tomorrow and these first two games don't even matter." He is saying the right thing, but I just picture A.J saying in that manner that defines him as a dick. It is like he just snapped on the reporter asking hime the question.

comments about how they haven't I am sure most have you already seen it but there is a good article on the front page of ESPN about the Twins young pitching staff.
