In a world of winners and losers, this kid is a loser

IMO whatever shame and humiliation this kid suffers is deserved. Bascially, he faked being recruited by Cal and Oregon for football. He went so far as to hold a press conference to annouce his decision.

The first link from Feb 4th , it is unknown how he was duped:

The second link is after it is revealed he made the whole thing up:

Oh, did I mention that I will be running Goldman Sachs' trading desk next Monday?

How did he expect this to turn out?

At least with the whole, my girlfriend lives in Canada thing, it's a difficult thing for anyone to investigate... this is just plain silly.

People are idiots. Seriously, did he think that he would get all this attention and nobody would find out? Dollars to doughnuts it comes out he has some issues and his parents have checked him into rehab.

LH - speaking of, I did investigate and found no listing for "Amanda Hugankiss" in the greater Niagra Falls area (both sides of the border.) Starting to get suspicious. . .

Come signing day, he could have backed down and said "I did not get an offer, they said I could enroll and try and walk on." But NOOOOOOO, this kid had to push it.

I weep for the future.

What was his high school coach doing at his press conference? Wouldn't Tedford or Belloti have called him at some point? He's not the slightest bit suspicious?

When I heard this story on Monday, I first felt really sorry for the kid, because it sounded like he was duped and taken advantage of (possibly by an Oregon st. fan or something). Nonetheless, I remained suspicious and thought that this kid must be pretty dumb, if he'd never been to campus and never actually MET a coach. Now, I know he's an idiot, and his coach is an ever BIGGER idiot. High School coaches are generally the gatekeepers for these kids (as far as I understand it)...brutal.

Sad, really.
