One to grow on - The Motherf'ing Super Bowl

Let the butt-f'ing continue as the Packers now play the Steelers in the Super Bowl. As if you didn't know, the Steelers will be making their 3rd Super Bowl appearance in the past 6 years and their 7th overall while the Packers will be making their 3rd in modern times. Terrific!

We need to do something about this curse (no, not this curse) "The Balloon Curse."

Is it even worth mentioning anymore that Mike Tomlin used the Vikings as a springboard to the Steelers HC position, where he could very well become the most successful black coach in NFL history? Surpassing another former Vikes defensive coordinator, Tony Dungy?

The Vikes' response to this, I'm sure, will be to ensure that Leslie Frazier bolts for Carolina.

Non-facetiously, though, here's the thing that strikes me as interesting and instructive for the Vikings about the Super Bowl matchup: both teams have really good quarterbacks who have been running their system for 3+ years after being drafted by the franchise.

So stop thinking about Carson fucking Palmer and find a way to draft an elite NFL quarterback for the first time in half a century, is what I'm saying.

Are you saying T-Jac is not the answer?

Yeah, I've always felt a little badly for Jackson. He's been thwarted by bad timing and external circumstances a lot in his short career, such that he's never been given a real shot to prove or disprove he can be a solid starting QB in the NFL. I think there's a 50/50 chance he could be an average to above average starter. Which, back in '09 when we had the best RB in the game, the best defensive line in the game, and a lot of other pieces, might have been enough to get us somewhere. For your Rebuilding Minnesota Vikings of the next three years while the Packers own the NFC North, he's definitely not the answer to any question that doesn't include the words "disaster" and "backup."

I guess I was not laying the sarcasm on enough. The only time I have been a propnent of T-Jac is when I did not want Favre.

By my count their are only three succesful QBs in the league that were projects or pleasant surprises: Tony Romo, David Garrard and Matt Cassel. I have a feeling though if the Vikings were sitting with Garrad we would all be clamoring for a new QB. All the other starting qbs are either high draft picks or are floundering.

Don't worry, I caught the sarcasm. Just responding like a dork because I didn't have a humorous comeback.

I think you're leaving out Tom Brady. Certainly falls in the "pleasant surprise" category. His counterexample has been so strong that for the last half decade most of the league has bought into the fool's gold theory that they, too, will find a hidden star in the 8th round. But you're right: Manning, Rodgers, Rivers, Brees, Roethlisberger, Flacco, Ryan, Schaub, Vick, Eli, Palmer, even promising new guys like Bradford and Stafford, were all top ten picks (I think). That's almost half the starting QB's in the NFL, and the vast majority of the ten best.

Yeah, that is quite a bit of an overlook. When I went through team by team I think I must have thought he was an early pick instead of the 6th round pick that he is.

In short this does not bode well for Joe Webb.
