The Aints

On the heels of the Saints open-hand slap of the Patriots, I'd like to take back my earlier statement that the 2009 Saints are the 1998 Vikings. They aren't, they are the 2009 Saints. I also think the Pats look particularly vulnerable, where was the offense that played in that game against the Colts? I do think you can run the ball on the Saints and nobody is unbeatable but the fact that they outscore opponents 112-24 in the 4th quarter is eye-opening.

I told BG this last night, but that team is f'ing terrifying right now. They ran through a Belichick defense like it was the Browns. The one silver lining is that the Vikes D's strength is the line, and especially Allen. That could shake things up for Brees. Otherwise, he'll dissect our secondary the way he does everyone else's.

Also, their defense is underrated. Brady was off last night, but the running game was stanched, their LB's gave Welker about .4 yards after the catch and pasted him repeatedly, and Moss was contained.

Seriously, that was one of the best teams I've ever seen last night. I don't know what's to stop those guys from running the table, other than possibly the Vikes. Our offense could go ball control on them a bit and make Brees and co. try to do too much too quickly. Maybe.

Regardless, they just went all Deliverance on the prom king last night. I'd give the Pats something of a chance if they faced them again in the Super Bowl, based on the stage and Belichick's track record of adjusting, but I don't see how the Colts defense stops that offense, and I don't see how the Chargers defense even gets that offense to third downs.

Theres no question they are good and should have nothing taken away from them. But, to take something away from them, I also think the Pats looked awful - Brady flat out missed two wide open receivers that would have been touchdowns and got stuffed on a 4th down in the red zone that would have made it a one score game. The Pats secondary looked like the 2007 vikings secondary and completely blew coverage on two touchdowns. Some of that is good schemes by NO, but some of it was just not coming to play. So,on the bright side, our d line stands up much better than the Pats' who put no pressure on brees all night, and i think we have an offense thats tougher to take out of the game than the pats. I still just don't think that the saints defense is as good as it looked last night. They have given up a lot of points against a lot worse teams than the Pats. Plus, it puts into perspective that the Pats, who i actually thought were the best team in the AFC, are very beatable. I hope the Saints go 16-0 so the choke in the playoffs will be more painful.

Has the statute of limitations on loving everything New Orleans passed? They were America's team for a couple seasons there, but I think it's okay to hope for a choke now.
