Jan does not sound good. I am guessing with what you have going on outside of the workplace that you are staying put as long as they let you.
PS- I am back. I beat the evil system.

No, taking the buyout. Basically, this is not for me and I have a chance to make a change in my life while getting to be there for the first year of my pending child's life. If it was about the money/job security and I was at a different point in my life I would stay. Sarah is taking 6 weeks of maternity leave that will end right around my last day here. She loves her job and is good at it.
Nice work on getting back to FTLOSBW.

Good for you. Without know much about your job I think I can say with absolute certainty that: 1) It will be more rewarding 2) It will be more difficult. Maybe durning naps you will have a chance to start writing that book.

I should not have said difficult. I should have said challenging.

Difficult, challenging, same thing. Thought I would be more terrified than I actually am. That's a start.

Wow...Stenerud, you are a bolder man than me (as you know, I turned down the buyout and stayed at my job). How many months?
Congrats, though...this is a great move for you, as we all know you were never meant for the huge corporate job.

bg, what buyout was that?
Jan, if you're not terrified, you're delusional. Just kidding. Sort of.
I envy you the time you'll have with the kid. You may at times feel like you're getting too much of it, but you'll probably have the rest of your work life afterwards to lament the opposite. Enjoy. I expect some quality postings to FTLoSBW out of you during nap time.

I got 7.5 months of severance plus a year of health/dental/life insurance. Not a bad gig if you can get it.
You know how when you touch a hot stove you react and pull your hand back in pain and don't touch it again? Well, I've been touching a hot stove for 10 years, over and over and over. Time to turn the stove off. Not looking for a new appliance to burn myself on, looking for a new kitchen.
Wow, that analogy got out of control quickly.
