What suprises you more...

1.) Glen Perkins pitching 8 scoreless innings against the mighty Bronx Bombers, or

2.) That Adam Everett can generate enough bat speed to hit the ball out of the park?

My vote goes to Everett. Somehow he managed to avoid an error too. It was a pretty good night for him all in all.

Unrelated, but I am not sure where to stick it because it does not deserve it's own post or link:

According to Dana White, the Target Center hosted 15,082 spectators for UFC 87, and banked a live gate total of $2,252,000, breaking the venue’s former record gate ($2,062,000) set by a Billy Joel/Elton John concert in 2001.

I'd vote Everett as well. His dinger still doesn't make up for his play in Kansas City.

As MCA texted last night after the win - "I guess the earth has stopped spinning or something?"

I'll go with Everett, too. Still think we should cut him as soon as possible, though.

Hopefully a great performance like Perkins's is what this team needs to snap out of the Yankee Funk, by demystifying them a little. They can be dominated, after all, apparently.

Great point on de-mystifying them. They are reeling right now and we should really step on their throats (or whatever the saying is).

I don't get UFC...I guess I am not shocked that it plays well in the upper midwest, but I am suprised it broke a Target Center record. Probably because Lesnar was fighting.

P.S. Does this mean that the average UFC spectator really spent $150 per person?!? Whoa...that is ridiculous.

I don't get the MMA or UFC either, I mean I get it in that "two men enter, one man leaves" but I guess I'm a little more squimish when it comes to people getting their ear slowly punched off their head (I did watch a MMA fight back in May where this happened.) And yes, tickets were expensive; I'm guessing there were a number of children who didn't get their child support payments this week.

Back to the Twinkies - I love the idea of de-mystifying them. While I hope we are just starting out on some 19-3 run against them, I still think we're shrinking violets until Mauer and Morneau become vocal leaders of the clubhouse (never going to happen with Mauer) and say "enough is enough"

Which raises an interesting point - who IS the clubhouse leader of this team, anyway? They're so young, it's ludicrous. The only guys over 26 are newcomers other than Cuddy and Nathan. The M&M Boys are clearly the "face" of the team and lead by example and all, but in addition to their youth they're both pretty obviously reticent, quiet guys.

Other than Gardy, who's the guy who gives the big speech to rally the troops, or cracks jokes and plays locker room pranks to keep everyone lighthearted? I honestly don't know who fills that role on this team without Hunter and Johan around, but given that we're in the middle of a playoff hunt right now, they need someone to do this.

Unrelated note: Madeau (sp?) Williams out at least 6 weeks. Ouch. Allen better be as good as advertised or we get torched in the air again.

MCA - I've been concerned about the clubhouse leader issue since that Pale Hoes v. Twins game when the fans went nuts and threw stuff on the field after Gardy got ejected. It was getting to the point where the umps had to be considering calling the game and I kept wishing that Morneau or Mauer would come up the dugout steps and tell everyone to quiet down (remember when TK walked out to left field to tell everyone to shut up when Knobby returned to the Thunderdome?) It would have been a moment for them to solidify themselves as the leaders in the clubhouse and among the fans. But no one did jack. Honestly, I don't think there is a guy in that clubouse who plays that role and I think that if you have a championship team you desperately need someone to be 'that guy.' Now, just because we resigned 32 year old Bobby Kielty last week to a AAA contract doesn't mean I automatically nominate him.
