This year's Ponson/Ortiz

Twins apparently signed Livan Hernandez to a one year deal. Reportedly $5M-$6M.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

"Last season with Arizona, he gave up 34 home runs, second-highest in the National League. He was 11-11 with a 4.93 ERA. He made two starts in the postseason. He beat the Cubs in the Division Series, then lost to the Rockies in the NLCS. Hernandez is 134-128 lifetime with a 4.25 ERA."

Looks like this guy can eat up some innings. While I would not use the term excited to describe my feelings, I think it has to be a better signing then Ponson or Ramon whatever his name was.

Dude, this is like groundhog day. Every year we hope to squeeze one more year out of some journey man. Maybe it'll work out this time.

By the way, how awesome is that Sprewell article...HA!

Yeah, sprews is now selling his boat because he can't make interest payments, this after turning down a 3 yr $21MM contract with the rationale: "My kids have got to eat"...crazy world that he lives in.

2007 stats 11-11 4.93ERA 204 innings.... add the requisite 0.35-0.50ERA premium from jumping from the National League to the American League.. and we're paying $5 million for 5.43ERA. Oh, and he was one of the best remaining free agents out there.... why did I go into banking?

LH, if you had stayed with your training and become that 7 pitch, "Swiss Army Knife," pitcher we had talked about, you could be making $6M (and I would have only taken 10% as your agent; I know - generous of me.)

If you think about it, Livan is the replacement for Silva just for $6M a year less. It will be interesting to watch them perform this year and compare. No way Carlos stays under 4.50ERA this year.

BTW -

"The Twins’ starting rotation now could look something like this: Francisco Liriano, Scott Baker, Hernandez, Boof Bonser and Kevin Slowey — with Glen Perkins, Nick Blackburn, Phil Humber, Kevin Mulvey, Brian Duensing, Zach Day and Randy Keisler all challenging for spots." - Joe Christensen, the Star Tribune.

I know, it makes me wish that I had spent more time on the internet learning how to throw a split finger- business school was such a waste of time.

I just heard that the Twins were in "late-stage talks" with Juan Berengeur. Apparently a one year, incentive laden contract is on the table... somewhere in the $4MM range.

This snow is a little lighter shade of yellow than the Ponson snow was, but I still wouldn't eat it. We now have 15 3-5 in the rotation starters. Can we please trade 6 of them for 1 worthy centerfielder?
