Champagne Wishes and Tuna Dreams

Appropos of nothing particularly germane to a Minnesota-centric board (other than the loose connection through our valiant Vikings, who play in the same league in terms of name, if not game), but who else here is incredibly relieved to NEVER, EVER, EVER have to hear about gatherings of 1972 vintage Miami Dolphins again?

Related note; Perhaps Not Terribly Bold Prediction: if it's bad weather (which I'll define as significant precipitation, high winds or temps under 40 degrees) in Foxboro, whichever of Jacksonville or Indy is given the chance first, takes out the Patriots.

Question- Does Tom Brady remind anyone else of Stanch? maybe it is just me.

I think they will win it all because if they were to lose they would take away the shame associted with the Vikings being the only 15-1 team to not win the Super Bowl.

I'm with MCA. I think the Pats are ripe for the picking. They have come back to win games over the last 4 or 5 weeks against some pretty ugly teams whose coaching or bone-headed plays gave the game the Pats (Brian Billick comes to mind in that Ravens game.) My buddy Bernstein (the quintessential annyoying Boston sports fan) e-mailed me that he is worried and then in the same sentence thanked me for 'giving Boston Randy Moss & KG.' Yes, I digitally punched him through my computer. The Moss comment killed me.

I would love to soften the anger over that 15-1 season with a Pats collapse.

Even if the Pats were to lose, it would be to a very, very good team. Nothing will ever change or obscure the fact that we dropped the NFC Championship to the Dirty Birds and Chris Chandler. Nothing.

Good call on Brady/Stanch. Men want to be them, women want to be with them.

Is it bad that I kind of want the Pistons to step up and keep the Celtics from the NBA Finals, just to temporarily stop the Boston Is The Center of The Sporting Universe carousel? 1. I don't even care about the NBA. 2. It just seems evil to root against KG, who deserves a chance at a title more than anyone. 3. Detroit stars guys from UNC, UConn and Kentucky.

LH, is there some other team in the East that can stop the Celtics? They're like 58-1 right now, right? Maybe I should go ahead and just pull for the strongest team in the West to make the Finals and beat them there?

MCA, unfortunately you can't just root for KG and not be rooting for the Celtics. Yes, KG deserves a title but I can't root for the Celtics because it is Boston, ergo, sorry KG.

LH, where is the NBA analysis? Oh, and while the T'Wolves might only win 10 games this year (if that) who are we going to get with our 6th pick in the draft? (you know that even though we should pick #1 due to losses, this franchise is tortured and the ping-pong balls won't bounce our way.) Speaking of, can you also shed some light on the stupidity of the way the NBA does it's draft? You can leave out commentary on the 7 button, orange suits with matching snake skin shoes these guys wear.

For some reason I don't believe the Patriots will go all the way either....maybe it's because the NFL's leading passer has never won a superbowl, or maybe its because their fans are so f_ obnoxious, or maybe it's because I don't want to see Moss with a ring...whatever, it is I think they'll lose. As Jan said, they haven't looked as unbeatable over the last 1/3 of the season.

I know what you guys are thinking: "Don't do it Luke, don't use your Christmas wish for this"..but I can't help it. I'm sorry Boston sports fans, but I hate you. My Christmas wish: Pats lose in the AFC Divisional Playoff game to the Jags....consider it done.

This is why a Pats loss is so important...with a Pats loss I can openly root for the Celtics to win the NBA championship, since Boston won't hold the sport's triumvirate- KG gets his much deserved ring, and all is right in my NBA world. With that said, as good as the Celtics are, they are in no way a lock for the title. I'm not sure who I would pick in a Pistons/Celtics series (though I think the Magic are still a year or two away). If they get to the title game, I'd put my money on the Spurs (big assumption here that the Spurs win the West- but if healthy, I don't see any team beating them in a best of 7) to take another title.
