One down, two to go: VIkes v. Dallas' Team

What an asskicking. Felt so good for so many reasons. Just some thoughts as it soaks in and I finish watching my 4th Sportscenter highlights:

1. The day belonged to Ray. I hope his knee is fine for this weekend but if not, I feel like someone else is gonna step up big on that defense. We held them to 3 points. 3. Say it again, 3.

2. Favre - Love him. The entire state of Wisconsin groaned at having to watch yesterday - happy for him, hatin' on the Purple.

3. Sidney - oh, Sidney my how you have grown.

4. Note to Keith Brooking: You're a pussy. The Cowboys were calling timeouts at the 7 minute mark, not exactly conceding; no doubt Vikings fans have let games like that slip away in the past, I have no problem with stepping on teams throats at this point in the season, regardless. Sometimes when your wide receiver pushes off in a 1975 playoff game it takes 35 years for things to be set right.

Great game. Considering that (a) he hadn't caught a pass all day, (b) he and Harvin are likely to be more important against the New Orleans' defensive matchups, (c) it was the last chance against a "live" opponent we'd have before the Saints, (d) how totally devoid of positive playoff experience most of the guys on this team are, and (e) the importance of establishing again, for the benefit of Sean Payton's sleep patterns this week, how many different weapons our offense has, I'm totally on board with the late TD pass to Shank, especially when it's on a route he typically doesn't even run.

Can I root for us to win the Super Bowl for Bud Grant and pretend Favre just isn't there?

To paraphrase Friend of Blog L.E. during the 3rd quarter yesterday: "Who are the Vikings three Stars of The Game" right now? Rice, Ray Edwards, and Chris Kluwe. Bet you weren't planning on those guys."

If the D-line comes up big like that again, our chances are strong. We can run on the Saints, and they shouldn't be able to run as well on us. Brees has established he's not Romo, but I like our matchup right now, anyway. And I know dtk's on the same page.

We had to listen to everyone preach about the great tony romo and the dominating dallas D and all their weapons. Three points for them. 34 for us. That shows how much all the experts know.

Now they will spend all week hedging which bandwagon to get on -- ours or drew brees. I hope its drew brees.

I like that we punched them in the nose at the end -- believe me, they would have done the same to us. We tried to run out the clock, but their vaunted D kept giving us first downs. This is the playoffs, not game four. Keith Brooking runs around being Johnny Rah Rah all game, jumping around like its a high school game. Then he cries like he's a high school player. And let me remind you keith, you puss, i remember the falcons doing the dirty bird down the sideline after they beat us in 98, and i dont remember you lecturing your teammates about sportsmanship then. Im trying to find the video, but i bet he's right there with them. Keith - are you embarrassed taht you ran over to our sideline to cry and Jared Allen laughed at you? Literally was so dismissive that he laughed in your face. We didn't try to embarrass you. You just went ahead and did it yourself.

I love what Pat williams said -- he's now maybe my new favorite viking:
"We don't care what Keith Brooking says," Williams said. "He was about to get his ass whupped on our sideline over there. It don't matter. Nobody said anything when they blew out the Eagles [the past two weeks].

"It's the playoffs. It ain't no regular-season game. If you lose, you go home. We take no pity on them. Do they expect us to? I don't care about no Brooking. He can say whatever he wants to say."

Thanks Pat. And i'd like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Guys - I'm late to the party here, so I won't add much. My thought on the late TD is exactly the same. Keep the momentum going for next week. Also, they're the Cowboys. Like the Notre Dame of the NFL, everyone wants to take them down. And when they do, they don't mind rubbing their noses in it just a bit. Deal with it. Good point on Brooking as a '98 Falcon. D-bag...the timeouts with 7 minutes left annoyed the crap out of me and I'm glad we did what we did.

Another way I knew this was a unique game: the only point during the game when I got really upset was when Childres completely mis-managed the end of the first half. Either run out the clock or go for it...don't hedge and do a hybrid!! Brutal...
