This is all I can muster. Get on Board, fellas.

My night:

8:30 Turn on Vikes Game
9:30 Getting disgusted watching the Vikes, switching to Pawn Stars during commercials.
10:00 Watching Pawn Stars, flipping back to the Vikes game during commercials.
10:45 Give up and go to bed. Sure I missed the comeback but missed the tease.

I got angry last night but not angry enough to abandon ship just yet. I think they can build on that second half and use that as a spring board into the post-season (putting up 30 in 2 quarters of football is, well, kinda impressive.)

Was that pawn stars or porn stars? I know what the latter is and I can understand why you were watching that over the vikings... I don't know what the former is.....but now that I think about it, I can understand why you were watching that over the vikes as well.

Watched the game with BG last night- thought we were going to get through "gut-check" time after Gould pushed that kick right in OT, but just wasn't meant to be I guess. I certainly haven't abandoned them yet, but they sure have made the road through the playoffs a lot harder on themselves..

By the way- noy an excuse I know, but I thought the officating was horrendous- almost as bad as the vikes first half play calling.

Gents - I need to post for therapeutic reasons. Jan and I both found ourselves truly upset for the first time all year. The Pittsburgh loss was understandable. The Arizona loss was understandable. The Carolina loss looks much better in light of their crushing NY on the road. But this loss was painful. Before I go into my full-fledged analysis, I'd like to point out that this loss was NOT Favre's fault, as everyone (on the outside) was probably hoping. Yes, he played like crap in the 1st half, but so did the rest of the team, and the playcalling and O-line play were horrendous. This loss can be placed on lots of shoulders (we'll remember AP's fumble, particularly), but it should rest squarely with our special teams. The missed PAT and the lousy kickoff coverage were the crushers. The Bears' average starting field position was midfield. Awful...

Okay, all that being said, we win this week and Philly loses, and we still have the #2 seed.

Reasons for optimism:
1) The 2nd half rally. 30 points in a half is impressive, as Jan said, especially in 20 degree weather against a Bears team that was playing inspired ball for the first time all season. Were they trying to save Lovie's job or what?

2) Renewed rushing attack. AP had 94 yards, which is encouraging. We clearly rededicated ourselves to the ground game.

3) Sidney Rice - wow. MCA and I traded voicemails about how we generally HATE the fade pattern (gets overused and rarely works), but that play was beautiful. Rice is a top 5 receiver in the NFL next season.

4) The fire in the 2nd half. Again, we won the 2nd half 30-14 (excluding OT) against a Bears team playing well, at home, in horrible weather.

Okay - reasons for pessimism:

1) The O-line. My lord...whaaaa haaapenned?!?!? This unit is terrible. Bottom line. Favre has no time to pass and AP has very few holes to run through.

2) Winfield. He's clearly not 100%. He seemed 1-2 steps slow all night. He got torched on the final play, but that was more a result of his expecting a running play.

3) The defense overall. Again, they were defending a short field all night, but there is not much positive happening right now. The tackling is pitiful. Wrap up!! How many times did Cutler escape and then complete a 20 yard pass?!?

4) Pass rush - or lack thereof! We missed Pat Williams last night and got very little pressue on Cutler. See above.

5) Coaching. Two straight weeks we came out as flat as the Jimmy Kliensausage's home state. That is 100% on Childress. We had everything to play for and acted like we had already clinched home field. Booooo. The playcalling, as noted, was awful in the 1st half. No rhythm and no flow. I also think Favre was making a point by NOT audibling, which is a problem, since there seemed to be times he wanted to and didn't (because of the skirmish with Chilly).

Kudos to LH's wife for showing some fire last night and dropping a few cuss words in support of the Vikes. Mrs. BG is more concerned with preventing me from embarassing myself and saying inappropriate things.

And finally, not to be THAT guy, but the officiating was as bad as I've ever seen. Did anyone else see the facemask on AP's fumble? How about the two blocks in the back right next to the runner on the 60 yard kickoff return after our TD that cut it to 7?!? The late hit on AP that wasn't called? The ticky-tack pass interference on Brinkley against Olsen?!? Just awful. Call 'em both ways, boys.

Let's beat the Giants and pull for the Cowboys, and all will be right with the world. If we end up with the 3 or 4 seed, I have a feeling we'll be seeing the fudge for the 3rd time this year. And we all know how that movie ends...

P.S. Few other things:

1) If we win the Super Bowl, I will record don't stop believin', a cappella, all by myself. In other words, I'll pull a kid rock and play all the parts. Mark it down. Glee is quite a guilty pleasure, by the way. Call me a dork.

2) As mentioned in the prior post, I had the indescribable feeling of frustration and rage last night...the kind where you want to go and smash a car window (Jan's analogy). Don't worry, I didn't. We should have heeded Alshouse's advice and remained merely cautiously optimistic. That said, I'm still all in. We just need the #2 seed so we don't have to play in the cold (that being said, the only potential cold-weather road game is at Philly - at Dallas or at Arizona would be okay).

3) I want Dallas at home in the playoffs. I'm on record with that. The fudge scare me, the Eagles scare me more (obviously), and the Cardinals are explosive (as we found out).

4) It pains me to say this, but Kudos to the Bears' fans. They were into it last night in a game that meant nothing, in TERRIBLE conditions. Lots of Vikes fans in the crowd, but can you imagine what the humpdome would have been like if the roles were reversed?

I'm shocked, SHOCKED, that this team is falling apart. And that it's Chilly's fault. Hoocoodanown?

How could Childress bring in a guy who knows the offense he wants to run better than anyone in the world and then shackle that guy to Chilly's retarded playcalling all season?

What would you have said a month ago if I told you we were in serious danger of being the 4th seed in the NFC playoffs? Frankly, at this point, I'd prefer that to 2 or 3, because we'd get to play indoors against a Saints team that's as lost as we are right now, assuming we could beat the Cowboys (never a good assumption, given all Minnesota teams' tendencies in "ending the bad streak for someone else" games). The prospect of the Eagles or Cardinals right now is not a pleasant one.

Anyway, the sooner the blight of Glee is gone from this world, the better, says I. Also, to each their own, but I will rip this show. Is it supposed to be campy and funny, or dramatic and poignant? It tries to be both, and is neither. Is the audience supposed to be 14 year-old girls, or Gen Xers who love them some irreverence and genre-ripping? It's like someone saw the success of American Idol (one seriously choking canary in the coalmine named "The Death of American Culture") said "Let's add dialogue and a dumb plot to this!" and then hired a bunch of writers the producers of Modern Family rejected. I am embarassed by the song choices. I cringe when I watch this show.

Or, I'm possibly just an old man now, and not "getting" this show is perhaps symptomatic of my lack of edge. I don't understand this newfangled century, what with the pods and the googles and that book about the faces.

BG - good breakdown. Mark me down as "ditto". Especially in regards to special teams and childress. Caps and sleeves in this league. Caps and sleeves.

That said, i'm just going to refuse to get down on these guys this year. It's never worked in the past, so i figure i'm going to just keep believing. Philly loses, we win, and we are right back to where we needed to be. The Pats, Cards, Giants, Falcons, etc etc have all proven that when you get to the playoffs its a new season. Here's to hoping. And here's to hanging on like a blind guy on a motorcycle.

And if we lose, THEN you can count on me finding chilly and shaving his beard with denny green's dick.

Items from my brain:

1. Glee - let's get this off the table right now, MCA you are an old man. Mrs. Jan is a fan and I have no problem watching along with her (guilty pleasure? not so much with the side of guilt, just a little entertainment after putting baby to bed.) If you're too far removed from your youth, it's suppose to be "campy and funny." Plus, they can all sing. BG, I know you're a man of your honor, love it.

2. The fade route - I'm a big fan of it. "Almost never works"? I think Randy Moss has scored 172 tuddies on the fade, works with a tall athletic receiver who can go up and get it.

3. Favre v. Chilly - Agree, agree, agree. Let Favre run this offense. If he wants to throw 50 times, let him wing it. If he wants to audible (which he has said he has done a surprising 10 times ALL SEASON) then let him audible. We are gonna win with "passing setting up the run" NOT the other way around. We don't "need to establish AP"; we need to get open space in the defense and passing in the West Coast offense does that.

4. Winfield - I have never seen a corner dominate a game like he did against the Bengals and then get carved up like he did the last two weeks. What I do know is that "in Winnie I trust" so . . .

5. Fire in our bellies - It would have been the most memorable come back in Vikings history (after the San Fran game this year) if we had pulled it off. Someone said something in that locker room, most of which must have been directed at McKinnie. I'm going with the notion that they found who they are in that second half.

6. Special teams - reason they call it special because it is retarded, has been for years. How you can directional kick it and allow a 60 yard return is beyond me. Makes me angry just thinking . . .

7. Hope - keep it alive as this too shall pass. It's a 16 game regular season. A new season whatever our draw is starts in a week. All bets are off at this part (Cardinals?)

8. RTS - ??? Really??? Flipping over to Pawn Stars? C'mon.
