Don't Want To Be An American Idiot...

I know this is totally off-topic, and I've always tried to keep the politics off this thing (just in case some outsiders were actually to visit this place), but sometimes I just feel compelled. Johnny Drama and Bible Spice (wish I had made those up) and their hate-baiting antics have me so pissed off I just can't resist today.

Anyway, per the caption, I think this is what Green Day had in mind...

Yep, there's the dignity and humility of small town American values, right there. Yo, Strongsville, Ohio, you want to know why the rest of us condescend to you? Because you think rank ignorance is a fucking virtue, that's why, you morons. This is why Democrats should just abandon that state. It's stabbed them in the back twice in a row and, given the macro factors in this election, should be favoring Obama by about 20 points but instead is dead even. This town is in northern Ohio, by the way. It's not like it's in the super red Cincinnati suburbs or something.

Also, break out the banjos!!!

That one's mostly just funny, but good lord, the ignorance is pretty astonishing. Where do all these GOP mf'ers get off calling supporters of the other guy "Obamabots" anyway? I think we can all see in which party's ranks the unthinking zombie puppet demographic truly resides.

ps - while I like "Bible Spice" and "Failin" and "Sarah W. Bush," the funniest I've heard yet is "Satire's Assassin."

Additional: This is one of the saddest things I've seen...

And this is freaking Pennsylvania!

I think I've been naive in how I've been poo-pooing peoples' fears for Obama's personal safety up to now. The way these people have been whipped into a fervor, I'm rock solid certain there will be an attempt on his life within 12 months if he's elected.

MCA- In the last week I have heard someone comment how he was raised in a country that flew the planes into the towers. Yes, those planes were just riddled with Kenyans. Followed by, how they just could not vote for a muslim. So what was the whole reverend Wright controversy? And then completing the trifecta, that Obama was not even born in the US. I guess it will be a cold day in hell before people view Hawaii as a state.

The other thing that seems to be gaining steam are excuses for Bush and how all of our problems at home and abroad are Clinton's fault, that Bush just inherited the mess. According to CNBC this morning the reason the market is going down so much is it is pricing in an Obama win and that we are going back to the Jimmy Carter days.

It's just depressing, isn't it? I mean, wow. I think The Onion sums it up best: "Report: 60 Million People You'd Never Talk To Voting For Other Guy." The ignorance that exists in this country is staggering. My message to people: "Stay in school - you won't be a dumbfuck the rest of your life." I loved the people in in the Pennsylvania video yelling "get a job!" to the Obama supporters. I would tell them it's ironic they're yelling that but then I'd have to explain "irony" to them as well.

I posted that article that Palin should be delivering her speeches from a beer hall in Munich because her rhetoric is inciting her supporters to shout things like "kill him" and "he's a terrorist" in reference to Barack. No doubt there will be an attempt on his life in the first 12 months. All in all, this has gotten really fucked up and it is pretty clear that McCain made a deal with the devil back in March. The fact that at one of his speeches when someone yelled out "he's a terrorist!" that McCain, who you could tell heard the comment, didn't stop and put the breaks on the hatred within his supporters is something McCain will have to answer for either on earth or wherever it is he goes.

I do have to say, what with people like William Buckley, Kathleen Parker, David Gergen and David Brooks recoiling in horror at their party right now, that I do hold out some level of hope that after the Republicans are sent to their rooms for an extended timeout on November 5, some sort of civil war shakes out in the party.

Knives are coming out, one way or the other. Either a legitimate party split (the most logical thing to happen, although I don't think it's terribly likely, is the traditional "fiscally conservative, socially liberal" contingent of traditional elites marries up with their libertarian soulmates and leaves the religious nuts the rusted husk of the "Republican Party" label), or the elites tell the angry mob of religious rightists to go fuck off and form the Knaax Party (Know Nothing Anti-Abortion Xenophobes) because we're done pandering to you. I mean, the McCain-Palin matchup has always felt like breakup sex, hasn't it? The Republican Party needs to reinvent itself or it's in for a long time in the wilderness. Actually adhering to "conservative" principles in governance generally, and fiscal and foreign policy particularly, would help. Disowning the culture war it's been stoking to ill effect for the nation for the last 4 decades would be a nice start, too.

I note that, other than the morons from Ohio in that one video, all the angry frothers are 50 or older. One of the things I've always found most appealing in Obama is that electing him is a big middle finger to the Baby Boomers and their bullshit Vietnam Era politics. It's time for the next generation to take up our yoke and start cleaning up the mess our parents have left us. We've known this was coming for 15 years now. If Obama wins, the '60s will finally be over, and Generation X can assume its pre-ordained destiny as thankless, overlooked cleaner up of other people's bullshit.

MCA -

Is "the McCain-Palin matchup has always felt like breakup sex, hasn't it?" a MCA original? Terrific. I am going to start using that one, I will, of course for legal reasons, reference you.

Amazing how 12 months ago it was the Democratic Party that was in turmoil/shambles and deemed 'directionless' by pundits and media. The Republican party made a fatal error in the 1990's led by Newt and his "Contract with America" that was inked with the pen from the religious right; much of which now appears to be coming home to roost.

I did come up with that one on my own, thankyouverymuch. Feel free to use without attribution. There are plenty of other apt analogies, though - especially the one in which nominating Palin is equated with a hit of crystal meth or crack.

Dudes, this has been thoroughly enjoyable. I had to stop watching the Ohio video, because the combination of the accents and the ignorance were too much. The 2nd video was so great it could have been on SNL.
