I hear what this guy is saying but...

The list of the 10 worst Franchises in pro sports, Twins #7.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8098378/Top-10:-Worst-franchises-in-pro-sports?MSNHPHCP&GT1=39002

What he writes is 100% true. However, it does not fit into the list he is making. If the article was 10 worst owners, then I would be on board. There are a lot of teams that would kill to have the success the Twins have had. McPhail, Ryan and hopefully now Bill Smith are all GM's who could work within the limitations imposed on then. Kelly and Gardy have been able to execute the game plan. The minor league teams clearly get the players to believe in the system and make them fundamentally sound. The scouts have done a tremendous job identifying talent. Wouldn't that make up an organization more so than just an owner? Who would you rather be a fan of a team that has 2 World Series rings and is continually competitive despite the owner's short comings or a team like the Texas Rangers that throws around a lot of money and still blows?

RTS - agreed. He puts the Twins in the same dump as the Pirates, Clippers, & Grizzlies? The Texas Rangers analogy is great, they have 3 titles, they just so happen to be AL West titles in 1999, 1998, & 1996.

Yes, our owner is Montgomery Burns but the team is competitive. If you're gonna make this list with a Minnesota sports team how about the Timberwolves?

SEems like most of the voters, readers and commenters agree with our assessment. This is a joke. Last time I checked, we have the best record in the AL central this decade (or at least the most division titles). And we have two more world series titles than the Cubs in the last 100 years. I didn't see the A's on the list, but they are exactly like the Twins in terms of spending money. Oh yeah...the Twins have a new ballpark on the way.

Also, where were the Detroit Lions? Or T-Wolves? Or Marlins?

I just read through some of the comments posted to the article:

"Been a Pirates fan all my life, its been brutile. What an insult to the Twins fans and orginazation. Did they fire you or something?"

"You put the twins, royals, and pirates on this list and then leave rangers, mariners, and brewers off. Those 3 teams have a least won the world series, which the CUBS haven't done in a century. And talk about tight, look at the Maple Leafs. "

"Are you serious about the Twins!!! Two world chanpionships (as many as Boston in the last 100 years) along with two Central Division Championships and a Wildcard Birth in this decade?? How can they be on this list and the Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, amd Chicago Cubs are left off. This is another really bad article on an otherwise biased website. Money ball? What a load of BLEEP."

From the Devil Rays entry:

Remember ... 2002: The Rays were going to have Jason Tyner bobble-head doll night on June 2, but there was one problem: the outfielder was demoted to the Triple-A team. On Sept. 8, it was supposed to be Toby Hall bobble-head night, but he was also sent down. Good thing his weren't fully built and the heads were reconfigured in time for Steve Cox bobble-head night.

That is just indescribably stupid. Let's run down the list of MLB franchises that are obviously, hands-down, "worse" than the Twins in terms of either historical success (i.e. World Series championships) or last decade quality of play, or both:

Texas (both)
Kansas City (both)
Pittsburgh
Nats (both)
Cubs (both)
Astros
Mariners
Brewers (both)
Devil Rays (both)
Orioles
Phillies (both)
Padres (both)
Dodgers
Reds
Detroit (last two seasons, without a ring, do not yet overshadow the absolute atrocity that was the Tigers from '95-'05)

If that feels like half the league, it's because it is half the league. And that's just baseball. Pick any of the four major sports and you could rattle of ten names in a minute that unquestionably deserve to be on the list more than the Twins.

Agree, Agree, Agree and Agree... this is one of the most worthless articles that I have ever read... In terms of Minnesota's 3 major sports teams (yeah, that's right, I don't count hockey as major) I believe you'd have to rank them from best to worst: 1.) Twins 2.) Vikings 3.) Wolves...and to be honest, as MCA did so well for baseball teams, there are soooo many teams in each respective sport that have had far worse existences...

clearly the wolves are where the argument can best be made: draft picks, scandel(Joe Smith), owner ineptitude (see Joe Smith), GM ineptitude (will somebody f'ing see Joe Smith), results, failing to support your superstar player, etc. etc. etc.... wait a minute- I think I just talked myself into adding the Wolves???
