So Does Tim Brewster

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/03/04/sports/FBC-Minnesota-Roof.php

WTF are you thinking? I can't believe this guy's now been employed, as the head coach and the defensive coordinator, no less, at two of the only three college football programs I have any ties to. Back to back!! Talk about dampening my enthusiasm about the incoming recruiting class. I now have doubts about Brewster.

MCA, this totally puzzled me as well. Who knows, maybe he is a good X's and O's guy (not sure exactly what that means), just a terrible recruiter? In any case, guys who go 6-45 as head coaches should probably think about another career path.

The problem as I see it is that MCA is more of an academic school kind of guy than a football school guy. If MCA had ties to Ohio St and Nebraska this would not be such a problem.

rts, you count the U as an "academic" school? Just kidding. Anyway, the one of my three schools of interest which is a football school, wouldn't hire Ted Roof to paint the end zone.

The problem, bg, is that (from my limited knowledge based on years of apathy about Duke football) he wasn't that bad of a recruiter, given the circumstances in which he found himself. Coming in, he was actually tabbed as a guy who could make recruiting better. What he failed at was finding a way to give his inferior athletic teams some sort of exploitable advantage (i.e. superior schemes, system, playcalling, strength, motivation, special teams, whatever) that would allow them to, you know, actually win a game against a more athletic team (their challenge every single week). That just doesn't scream "good X's and O's guy" to me.
