Sign of Spring: Minnesota State High School Hockey Tourney
The Blake School got bounced early in the quarterfinals by St. Cloud Cathedral (who?) and the Cake-eaters rolled last night (losers.) I hate the two-tiered system, to make it better they should at least take the winner of A and the winner of AA and have them play each other; can you imagine the t.v. ratings around here if that game was held on a Saturday night?
Just like in 7th grade when they rolled t.v.'s into our classrooms to watch, I'm headed to a bar at 3 today to catch some action. Keep up to date on today's action.

All the small schools with really good teams (i.e. the Iron Range schools and the Twin Cities private schools who recruit) opt up to the big leagues, though, right? I don't think facing off the second tier winner against the top one would generate much excitement after a year or two. As long as the best small schools are opting up, there's no reason to think the second tier winner is legit.
I also don't like that Holy Angels, St. Thomas, Benilde and whoever else have taken recruiting to the point where they seem to be dominating. I respect Edina (I need a shower) or Blaine or wherever for their ability to generate and cultivate the talent in their native population a lot more than I do Hill Murray or Benilde for going out and offering scholarships to cherry pick kids from Wayzata and Bloomington. This holds in all sports - basketball and hockey, too. One Cretin is enough, no? Recognizing of course that not all kids on the Edina H.S. varsity hockey team lived in the district in 8th grade, of course, but it's a much smaller factor there.
Go, Warroad!
