I don't know what to think.

Flashing through my head:

"Yes!"

"No!"

"What?!?!"

"Herschel Walker Part Deux? We're a cursed franchise!"

"Holy shit, we're the team to beat in the NFC! Think about it! And we have the Purple Jesus. Oh, our defense lineman aren't going to be prosecuted this year?"

"I really have no choice but to be a part of this ride."

And I was just starting to get excited about the season, too. Dammit. In the back of my mind, I knew I wasn't really joking when I said I wouldn't rest easy until the first game started and he wasn't on our sideline. I will go to Hell for saying this, but I hope he gets hurt.

I see the stories now, though. We start 4-1 or 5-0 against a schedule that Tarsagen Jacksonfels could easily have gone 4-1 or 5-0 against, but it's all due to Favre being there, as far as everyone in the media is concerned.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: this increases our chances of actually winning the Super Bowl by maybe 10%. At great cost, both financially and otherwise. We're now the team to beat in the NFC in the eyes of the sports pages, because they are blind to Favre's negatives and want their story, and the story isn't "this makes a very good team better, but it may be only marginally better and it could backfire." It really doesn't help us as much as everyone not a Vikings fan thinks it does. In my not so humble opinion.

Fuck.

Also, $10-12 million? Really? For a one year rental? We have that kind of cash and cap room and we couldn't have found a way to get Cutler and keep him off a division rival? Or get Cassel in here?

Peter King comes down hard on all concerned: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/peter_king/08/18/favre/index.html?eref=sihpT1

I agree with him. I always poo-pooed the sending the wrong message and harming existing QB's psyches angles of the whole story, but at this point, after having completely resolved it, after apparently installing Sage as the starter, after Sage looked good in the first preseason game, Chilly is, in fact, pulling the rug out from under him.

Also, does this mean Booty gets waived? We're not gonna carry 4 quarterbacks, are we?

The entire franchise looks desperate and weak. Favre got exactly what he wanted - a ton of money, a ton of press, and the keys to a top notch offense without having to show up for training camp or offseason workouts. Pathetic.

I am not surprised, but I am not sure how I really feel. Looking at the schedule if the Vikings are not 6-1 or 7-0, I would say the early consesus would be it was not worth it. Sage or T Jac could get us to 5-2 or 4-3 very easily.

Week 1 @ Cleveland. The only better road game would be at Detroit.

Week 2 @ Detroit. There we go.

Week 3 SF. If we aren't 3-0 at this point, we are deinitely not the favorite to win anything.

Week 4 GB on MNF. This would be a toss up in any year. If Farve does not win this one then WTF did we sign him for?

Week 5 @ STL. How were we so lucky to get 3 of the crudiest teams from last year on the road in the first 5 weeks?

Week 6 Baltimore. A team we should beat at home.

Week 7 Pit. Can you say measuring stick? At this point I would count it as a loss.

Guys...this whole thing just makes me feel funny. As I told MCA, it's like I just ate a bad burrito. It tasted good going in (looks good on the menu / in the paper), but it is going to suck coming out the other end (this will backfire). As my favorite foul-mouthed columnist Drew Magary said, the best-case scenario is that he gets hurt and Rosenfels plays like John Elway. Unlikely.

His other point is this: what's the end-game? We win the super bowl and the lasting image of our franchise is f-ing FAVRE holding the lombardi trophy?!? I think I just threw up in my mouth.

We are in fan purgatory...and as he says: I'm not sure there has ever been a situation more confusing for one set of sports fans in history?
