The blog formerly about a daily dose of mostly Minnesota sports rants and raves with a sprinkling of general sports commentary and a pinch of jaded-malaise regarding the world around us

The Dose: Minnesota is in a black hole of sports-related crappiness.

The current 0-5 run the Twins are suffering though makes me feel "blah" about baseball. Like how the owner of a Kentucky Derby horse feels when his horse hits that first quarter pole and has already been squeezed to the back of the pack.

LH - Comment please on the Woofies latest draft woes. Any thoughts on the whole GM-search charade? What a mess of a franchise.

People are still talking about Brett Favre. I can't believe it. Silver lining: he's farting on his legacy; tarnish to that silver lining: he's wearing Vikings underwear. When does Peter King start to talk about the "distraction" Brett Favre has cause the Vikings offense. A good coach would make this whole thing a rallying point for a team either way it goes; we don't have a good coach.

Before I forget, anyone else hear the Twins are 4 and 13 on the road this year. Sorry, should I not do that at the end of these things?

Alright, on a brighter note because life is too short and I'm a 'cup half full kinda guy' -

Thought this was cool. Like the Berlin Wall of basketball - I'd like a piece of it.

Following my stadium tour last week I stopped by my dad's office which faces "The Bank." Got a lesson on the 'thyroid.'

It was 97 degrees here today. A record. I love it. People were freaking out. 130 degree swing from January/February. Think about it.

Why do you have to whore yourself and promote your other blog through this blog? I was actually looking forward to learning something about the thyroid.

I do not know if it a curse or blessing that WGN will not show any of the Twins games from this series.

Probably a blessing, rts. WGN doesn't broadcast the Sox, anyway (at least not to my knowledge), so you're in no danger in the future, either.

Jan, thanks for the attempts to add a little positivity. Before we go too far down that road, though:

Joe Mauer better look out: http://sports.espn.go.com/highschool/rise/news/story?id=4155297

Wow.

That T'Wolves story says they've got three first round picks. They've got to be able to do something decent with that, right? It's a pretty weak draft at the top other than Griffin, anyway, I would think, so they'd be wasting money on Thabeet or this kid from Spain. They've both got very high complete bust potential, I should think.

Jan, can you buy a piece of the old Barn floor? My parents got me a Cameron Indoor relic when they tore it up about a decade ago. Kind of fun to have, although rather dorky, I admit. They're selling off pieces of the old Spectrum floor now, too. I wouldn't mind having one with a picture of Laettner's shot against Kentucky framed up with it.

Actually, the SOX are on WGN from time to time. I am impressed that the SOX on WGN had eluded you. I think it shows true distate of the SOX and shows great character. Looks like WGN will only be showing 1 Twins game from here on out on 9/2.

At the bottom of the schedule they have ALDS, ALCS and World Series listed as White Sox vs TBD. Wishful thinking southsiders.

If that kid can avoid getting hooked on blow and hanging out at the tattoo parlor he should be the next big thing.

Obviously, I stuuck the wrong link in there having just read MCA's link. I am not going to bother reposting the White Sox schedule as there is only one Twins game and I know no one gives a rats ass about the White Sox.

Looks like a Mauer in the making with that Harper kid; now all that Harper kid needs to do is make it to the bigs and win 2 batting titles in his first 3 full seasons.

Did we really score 20 runs today? Why does that always happen? Get shut down by the Yankees and White Sox, on a 6-game losing streak, and then score 20 runs at once, when 2 would have won the game! Maybe this will break them out of the funk.

BTW, how about Peavy sticking it to the White sox!?!? I love it. He refused the trade!!

Good for Peavy. He knows which side of Chicago he wants to live on, apparently.

Is Joe Mauer the best player in baseball right now, or what? Gold Glove at by far the most important and demanding defensive position, and a 1.319 OPS with 8 homers (have any of them not been opposite field yet?) and 24 RBI in 19 games. With no Spring Training. Good lord, that's ridiculous. During Monday's game, they kept showing that play he made against the Yankees where he chased down a guy and dove to tag him out at the plate after bluffing a throw to first. What catcher is that athletic? He's a freak. Orel Hershiser was positively gushing.

If the pitching staff can't get it figured out this year (I still think [hope?] at some point it'll click in for all of them and we go on a 15-2 run), at least we can watch Mauer hit .347 with 25 homers and 100 RBI to win his first MVP.
