Optimism Wins

Thank you, Tom Coughlin. Thank you, Texans. I very much enjoyed watching that last drive Houston shoved down the Bears's throat.

Let the speculation about Philly begin. I must admit, I had never even thought of them as a potential first round opponent. Can we stop Westbrook? How's their run-D?

I don't know much about this Eagles team. Their defense is really good though: 3rd against the pass, 4th against the rush.

Glad to see them blow out the Cowboys for a variety of reasons. Heard on ESPN that we are very "beatable" going into next Sunday. Yeah, we're beatable but so are the Eagles and I wouldn't use their win over Dallas as a measuring stick quite yet. My theory: the Eagles goal after their uneven start wasn't to win the Superbowl, it was to make the playoffs. They did that and in spectacular fashion and are ready for a let down against us.

I see yesterday's win for us as a "Monkey off our back" type win. We can all stop holding our breath and gripping the steering wheel so tightly and let it roll. Who wants to see the playbook opened up a bit more with more 2 back sets? I do. This team is built around veterans and it's the playoffs where they matter the most.

The Vikes vs Eagles seems like A pretty even match up. Both are at the top of league in defense and both rely on their backs to do most of the work. Had the Vikes backed into the playoffs, I would have gone with the Eagles, but since the Vikes did it all by themselves I am going with the Vikes.

So does the whole country now know how inconsistant and over rated Brett Farve is?

I never figured I'd say this, but the way the Cowboys have imploded, despite my earlier distaste for a matchup with them, I'm sort of more afraid of the Iggles right now. Especially when jan drops those defensive rankings on me. They can stack the box, and we'll find ourselves living and dying based on what Tarvaris does in his first playoff game. I'd feel more comfortable being assured of 160 yards on the ground against the 'boys, and letting the game ride on our ability to contain Witten and T.O.

Jan, I'm with you on the playbook and 2-back sets. I just don't want anyone to get their hopes up. You just know Chilly voted McCain. He's as conservative as they get, and he thinks it's working as is.

Let the record show this team finished the regular season 10-6, which is not in the Vikings Sweet Spot of 7-9 through 9-7. So, the New Era Theory appears to be in the ascendent. For the time being. I'm hopeful they can improve upon this next season. The window's not terribly large for this team.

Rushing title for AP. Good for him.

I hope so, rts, I certainly hope so. Getting bested by Pennington at home yesterday had to hurt bad for Jets fans. They were pretty frothy through the first 6 weeks. Suckers.

The New Era Vikes are 10-6 which is a great signal to the dawning of a new day in Vikingslandia. Pessimists would look at the Childress-led Vikes and say that over his 3 years he is merely .500 (6 and 10, 8 and 8, 10 and 6) but not us.

MCA - the Iggles should scare you. I thought the same thing you did, I'd take my chances that T.O. and Romo wake up against us and torch us all day but after careful consideration of how, if we lost, that would be replayed on ESPN ad nauseum I came to the conclusion that the Iggles are the lesser of two evils.

Factoid - the Vikes are 0 and 2 all time against the Iggles in the playoffs. Time for that doughnut to be turned into a 1.

KFAN had on a sports writer from Philly last night who, while admiting that he thought Iggles were done for the season a few weeks ago, was annoyingly brimming with confidence and cockiness. Time to shut him up.

Jan any chance of getting you to wager you childs name on the outcome of the game? Something like if the Vikies win and you have a son you name him Adrian or if it is a girl... well you still name her Adrian.

Dudes,
Although the game was ugly, it felt GREAT to win our way in. Also, seeing the Bears get thumped was nice...

I cannot believe how roles have reversed for Philly and Dallas. 4 weeks ago, I thought the Iggles were done, and would have much preferred playing them (remember, they tied Cincy - brutal). But now, their offense is clicking and their D is scary.

Any word on Pat Williams? Could be a huge factor...

We have to open it up this week, because Philly is going to blitz us until we make a mistake. Time for some screens, crossing routes and Kliensausage dump-offs - not just the occasion go-route by Berrian.

Yeah, I love seeing NY fans suffer, and they got duped by Favre. He should have stayed retired...he looked AWFUL over the past 4 weeks. Honestly, it's the cold weather...he can't handle it any more, and it used to be his specialty.

One last thought - I love that EVERYONE is picking the Eagles. Keep it coming...they are even favored by 3 on the road. Again, I like it.

RTS, I hope you took NU plus the 12.5 last night...even though we lost in OT, I think we potentially exposed the Big 12 as not being quite as great as everyone thinks.

Ahhh yes. Nice work, RTS. I like most of your picks...I think Iowa will roll, and I think the Rose Bowl will be closer than most people think.
