It's done....

Not sure what to think... this is one of situations where we honestly will not know for years whether this was a good trade or not.. still, given that we do have the assets to compete now, it disappoints me that in return for the most dominant pitcher in the game, we received all prospects.

I feel sick. Not sure I can talk myself into this one quite yet.

Yeah...what happened to "Major League Ready" talent?? This is not exactly Phil Hughes and Melky Cabrera...or Ellsbury and Lester.

I'm just pissed they didn't offer him 6 years at $120...as at least that would have been in the ballpark (in terms of the length of the deal). I think $25mm per year may be too much to devote to a guy who plays once every five days, let alone for 6 or 7 years.

The only silver lining for me at this point is that he's out of the American League, and we won't have to watch him beat us 2-3 times per year. Just once every 4 years.

I'm tired of us losing our elite athletes....

I've been thinking about this for a while now and I think, just having watched my beloved hometown team trade the greatest pitcher in the game today due to mere financial reasons, it might just be time to act.

I would like to take this quorum of sage minds we've established here one step further and create a sports holding company. I propose we pool our financial resources and put together a collective bid package for the Twins, Wolves and Vikings. Truthfully, I don't really care about the Wild, but if you guys want to include them as well, I'm willing to compromise. But Per, I don't want to own the Lynx. I haven't done the math on this yet, but we may need to pull in a few more people (we want to make sure that we have additional funds available to fund our acquisition targets).

If you aint with me, you're against me...who's in?

I am ill. There are silver linings but the bottom line is there were far better deals (supposedly) on the table a month ago. This deal gets us nowhere unless we turn around and package a couple of these guys with Nathan. '08 is over already.

My thoughts can be summed up in 3 letters- WTF. The Hughes/ Caberra deal seemed way better. I was all for trading Santana to get something, but I feel like I just traded my 1975 George Brett rookie card for Steve Sax, Omar Moreno and 2 checklists.
