Rotisserie Baseball
Is anyone interested in starting a rotisserie baseball league for the remainder of the year playing just for kicks and giggles? I have never played but was thinking if anyone was interested we could play a real stripped down version for free on Yahoo. To make it real easy I was thinking we could make it so we only use AL Central teams or something like that and limit the number of categories. Anyway, if you are interested let me know.

RTS - funny you brought this up. As I was watching t.v. last night with Sarah and flipping back and forth to the Twins game she asked why I don't do some sort of fantasy baseball. Not sure she was encouraging me as much as she was surprise that I don't alreay have a roto team considering I follow the Twins pretty closely.
Not sure I'd be in as I'd like to keep the "Purity of Essence" that exists in my relationship with baseball. I think one fantasy football league is enough for me.

Fair enough, you make the Shogren arguement of why he does not play fantasy football. What if it was NL central teams? No conflicts there, just throwing that out there.

Funny, I thought of that NL option. Maybe? Is there an automatic draft?

not for as limited of a league as we are talking, but if we openeed it up for all of the NL maybe and if we did it for all of baseball, I am almost positive we could do that.

I could be down with something simple (NL idea is a good one to eliminate conflicts of interest with the Twins).
We could pick one hour and do an online draft and go from there.

I had no idea what Rotisserie Baseball means... is this what the kids are saying nowadays instead of fantasy league?
I would be in for a stripped down, NL-only, easy version as well (to think, all of those years I've spent tracking all facets of the NL will finally come in handy.)

Lacking in the time to do it here. The more you automate, etc., the less incentive to care what's happening, anyway. I'm with Peterson, I think. FFL is more than enough for this kid.

To answer LH's question rotisserie is different from fantasy. In fantasy you play a schedule with head to head meetings, with the standings based on wins and losses. In rotisserie you add up the stats for the entire year and get points based on how you rank compared to the other teams in your league. For example in a 10 team league that only measures homers and RBIs, if I was leading the league in homers and 9th in rbis, I would get 10 points for being first in the hrs and 2 points for being 9th in RBIs for a total of 12 points.
3 does not sound like enough to pursue it. Please correct me if I am wrong.

One fun thing about being in a roto league is actually knowing the players in the box scores, which I just don't anymore. For instance, if I were to join one, I could read things like this one from last night and not have to wonder if "C Guevara" is in fact Che come back to life:
San Diego Padres
Pitchers IP H R ER BB SO HR PC-ST ERA
W Ledezma 4.2 3 3 3 5 3 0 100-56 4.43
B Corey (L, 1-1) 1.1 4 3 3 0 1 2 24-17 3.46
C Guevara 2.0 3 3 3 1 1 1 37-22 9.00
C Meredith 1.0 1 0 0 0 0 0 13-8 3.90
Totals 9.0 11 9 9 6 5 3 174-103
PITCHING
WP: C Guevara
IBB: A Soriano (By W Ledezma)
Batters faced: W Ledezma 21; B Corey 8; C Guevara 10; C Meredith 3
Ground Balls-Fly Balls: W Ledezma 4-6; B Corey 2-1; C Guevara 1-4; C Meredith 2-1
Game Scores: W Ledezma 44
I think Che should go back to fomenting socialist revolution - he doesn't look like much of a pitcher.

Did someone vote twice on the poll or did we actually have a visitor?
June 4, 2008 at 11:25 AM
I think someone voted. Sometimes when I go to FTLOSBW it looks like it doesn't record my poll answers and I have to do it vote again but in actuality it already recorded my answer.
However in this case I sent the link to the "Hate Kent Hrbek" post to the knucklehead who hates Kent Hrbek. He may have voted.
