Carlos Silva and the Mariners

I did not realize how bad the Mariners suck. They were swept by the Angels, have lost 20 of 27 and are 15.5 games back despite a $117 million payroll. You might say "Yeah, so what someone has to be last." I agree and would not even notice except that Carlos Silva and his $8.25 million salary has now lost 6 straight and is 3-6 with a 5.96 era. All I have to say to the M's is "You should have seen that one coming." Good riddance.

A few weeks ago I wrote about whether we miss Silva or not and his numbers at that time were:

Games Started - 7
Record - 3 and 1
ERA - 4.20
WHIP - 1.33
Innings - 45
5 HRs, 9BB, 19SOs

Now he is:

Games Started - 13
Record - 3 and 6
ERA - 5.96
WHIP - 1.48
Innings - 77
8 HRs, 15BB, 28 SO

Seems like a pretty steady trend towards mediocrity.

The schadenfreude is overflowing when it comes to the Tigers and Mariners. Not that I have anything against the Mariners, but I just love to see the teams that overspend and drive up free agent salaries get burned in the end. The M's also traded for Bedard, and apparently, the guys they sent to Baltimore are tearing it up.

As for the Tigers, they just got swept by the A's out here. This team has to be one of the bigger disappointments in recent years...2nd highest payroll in the league, and they are something like 0-25 when they score 4 runs or less. Nice...how's that pitching staff? I am NOT writing them off yet, though, as they could catch fire.
