Rondell redux or an opportunity?

The Twins and Chicago Cubs have been discussing a trade that would send left fielder Craig Monroe to Minnesota for a player to be named, and an announcement could come as soon as today.

Monroe, 30, hit 28 home runs for the Detroit Tigers in 2006 and five more in the post season as they reached the World Series. But the Tigers designated him for assignment in August after he batted .222 with 11 home runs and 55 RBI.

After being traded to the Cubs, Monroe batted .204 with one home run in 23 games.
He made $4.8 million last season and is eligible for a raise through arbitration, so many in the industry viewed him as a non-tender candidate.

Guys,
Great stuff so far. Jan, thanks for the update on the Dunkers breakfast. Gets me fired up.

I'd do the Monroe trade...what do we have to lose. A lot of guys buckle when they go to the Cubs.

Also, when did CARLOS SILVA (?!?) start commanding $10MM per year?!? That's what Johan is set to make this year.

REALLY???

Unreal on Silva. Did you see Lohse on that list as well?

Heard Hunter on 'CCO state that he wants to play for a "winner" and that it's not the money that is making him want to leave. Harsh.

We got him! Thank God we shuffled our priorities and signed Monroe first before anyone could get to him. Now that's settled, we can focus on getting Mike Sweeney; Hunter can wait, the market isn't as big for him as he thinks it is.

Wow...Torii says we're not a winner? Did we not win 4 division titles while he was here? I think our winning percentage since 2000 is in the top ten in the league (would have to fact-check that, though). Yikes...he'll come back down to Earth when the Fenway fans boo him for swinging at the first pitch with the bases loaded and grounding into a DP.

B-O-R-I-N-G.

We've gone from pitying Detroit to picking up their table scraps in two short years.

Silva must be living on another planet. Is he unaware of the fact that there are about five guys in the system ready to take over his No. 5 starter gig?

Hunter has been talking to Ortiz. I guarantee that's where this mindset is coming from. Agreed with jan - Hunter's gonna get offered less than Andruw Jones, who's coming off a terrible season. He's just trying to see if he can jedi mind trick some team into signing him before they see what Jones goes for.

Torii, say it isn't so! That hurts where it counts. I wouldn't pay Carlos Silva $10 bucks to throw 5 beer cans at a passed out Harbinson. 4 of them would miss and by the 5th one Harbison would wake up and smack it out of the party. Hopefully the list that Lohse is on is the list of guys the Twins would never ever sign again.
