This Was Slightly Less Inspiring than HIs 40 for 60 Speech

Joe Capp. Father of 40 for 60. Ultimate Team Player who turns down the Viking MVP. Loser of a Superbowl. Coach at Cal during the Stanford Band "Play". Terrible Business Man. Insanely retires and loses a contract as the highest paid player in the AFL, but paves the way for higher salaries for everyone else. Great Native American Athlete.

But none of that will be memorialized as well as when he beat down an old man with a cane at an alumni event.

Miracles or coincidences?

It is the age old question of do miracles exist and are they a proof that there is a god or are they merely statistical probabilities that are bound to occur due to the pure number of events in our world? Does god really hate the Vikings or does it seem like the Vikings hold more records for shortcomings than any other team because we are looking for them? Either way the Vikings earned another one yesterday with Percy Harvin's 104 yard kickoff return. It is the longest non-scoring play in the history of the NFL. The additional kick in the nuts, the Vikings did not even get any points out of the subsequent "drive." I know which way I am leaning. I will let all of you come to your own conclusion.

We'll Take It!

This is the best thing that's happened to Minnesota in two years.

Eat it Cheeseheads! It must be so frustrating to see our coffeepot form in the place of their stupid state when espn runs a segment on how many championships they win. SO much better to be the state in the background than the one that actually wins. It's like getitng your picture with a cutout of the President. So much better than having to deal with pesky secret service or all those crowds saying "wow, he's with the President."

This is as close to being a champion as we get, isn't it?

The Minnesota Wild - I'm hooked

I watched 4 minutes of the Wild's win over the Blues last night. They were meaningless 2nd period minutes where nothing really happened but I LOVED IT!

Yes, with the cratering of my sports world, my landscape is expanding rapidly.

Are these the Sam Bowie's of the Minnesota Vikings?

FOB ER brought to my attention that the Vikings drafted Troy Williamson and Erasmus James ahead of Aaron Rodgers. No hard feelings for James, I hope his health is good. Troy Williamson is almost unforgivable. The guy was a project with no hands and blazing speed and we blew the #7 pick on him. Don't forget that pick was the prize in the Randy Moss trade. Just to be semi-fair to the Vikes, every WR taken in the first 3 rounds of that draft were a bust except Roddy White taken at #27.

ER also sent me the pic.

RIGODDAMMDICULOUS

Not that I care anymore, but do we have to be shit on while we are forced to eat a shit sandwich?

I was forced to sit through a half of that nut scraping with Jan, and then for some reason returned for more in the fourth quarter, and that performance was just emabrrassing. I guess this rivalry has become so meaningless to this organization, or so important to the one who wears a championship ring, that we just show up to take a beating.

This team plays with less heart, intelligence and energy than almost any I have seen since I started watching organized sports in 1979. (I cannot verify that date, but I seem to remember going to Met Stadium, or at least the multi-coloerd 70's parking lot when I was 5).

This organization, along with several others in FTLOSBW (OK, all others not inlcuding that gals in the lingerie league -- keep it up, Ladies. You're doing fine.) needs to take a long look in the mirror. I hate to say it, but that starts with you, leslie Frazier.

So far he has shown me absolutley nothing as a coach. Blown leads, horrific penalties, no motivation for big games, no fire from anyone other than AP and JA, and basically no wins. I want to pull for him, but I need something. I'm starting to miss Chilly.

Total Awesomeness

Check out this piece from my childhood that I picked up on eBay, a 1977 George Brett Sports Illustrated poster. One of these hung on my bedroom wall through high school.

In the early 80s between 50th and Morgan and 54th and Minnhaha Pkwy/ Humboldt there was not a player more revered that George Brett. Why? Because my friend's older brother Jack N and his buddies Jeff E and Jeff H said so. They were 4 years older than the rest of us and would trade mass amounts of cards for Brett. That started it. Certainly, Brett and his career helped keep the momentum going. I had a 3 ring binder dedicated to George Brett cards.

Bill Smith - Farewell, Sir

Ryan back in place on interim basis. Looks like everything was handled with appropriate grace and Minnesota nice, which is gratifying. I have concerns about the next 5 years, and I guess there's no one I'd rather see addressing them than Terry Ryan. Interesting to note that this is the first time the franchise has fired a GM since moving from D.C.

Vikes Stadium - A Lesson in Myopia

So, the (bankrupt) Federal government can loan Solyndra $500 million for a solar panel technology that nobody wants but the (bankrupt) State of Minnesota can't get it's act together for $500 million for the Vikes? Come on. If there is one state that is going to fuck this up, it's gonna be Minnesota, right? I know, we got a deal done for Target Field but that was in the heady days of 2002. I feel like this is going to end badly. Question, when they move to LA, do you still follow them or the NFL for that matter?

- Asian person pictured is not an actual state legislator. Well, I guess I don't actually know that but. . .
